Generate:Biomedicines was founded in 2018 by Flagship Pioneering and has received nearly $700 million in funding, providing the resources to rapidly scale the organization. The Company has offices in Somerville and Andover, Massachusetts with over 300 employees.

The Role:

Generate:Biomedicines is looking for a Strategic Sourcing Manager to join our growing Strategic Procurement team. The Strategic Sourcing Manager plays a crucial role in addressing the needs of our research teams, and establishing Sourcing Category Strategies that address these needs. We are a rapidly growing company and are looking for an individual who is highly collaborative and will thrive in a fast-paced environment.

This role will work in close collaboration with key stakeholders in Discovery Research and Early Development. The position requires a blend of high-level Strategic Sourcing expertise with a solid understanding of the scientific and business aspects of drug discovery and development. Responsibilities include developing and implementing Category Strategies and Plans for Pre-Clinical Research, analyzing global market trends, leading cost-saving initiatives, and managing supplier relationships. The Category Manager also contributes to internal initiatives and projects within the organization, playing a pivotal role in cross-departmental collaborations that drive category growth and operational excellence.

This is a newly formed role and an exciting opportunity to join a growing Strategic Procurement team to build our strategic sourcing capabilities and deliver tangible impacts to the company's research and business goals. Successful candidates will excel at fostering robust relationships with our internal scientist colleagues, our external suppliers, and to work as a collaborative team towards delivering results within a dynamic business environment. This position can be a hybrid role with a weekly on-site presence in Somerville, MA.

Here's how you will contribute:

  • Manage Procurement Operations to ensure efficient supplier management and purchasing processes are performed in a timely manner while adhering to internal controls.
  • Provide guidance, support, and mentorship to stakeholders across the company, with all procurement operations related activities.
  • Oversee the procurement process from requisition to payment, ensuring compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Collaborate with other areas of the Finance team to address and resolve Procure to Pay (P2P) issues and system infrastructure. Provide excellent customer service and transactional support to internal stakeholders, work closely with external partners address operational issues, provide policy and compliance related guidance, and respond to inquiries.
  • Develop materials and train internal stakeholders and new hires on the Coupa platform to ensure compliance and efficiency in Generate processes.
  • Manage relationships with suppliers to ensure favorable terms, quality products/services, and timely deliveries. This includes negotiating contracts, resolving issues, and evaluating supplier performance.
  • Develop Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of procurement activities and identify areas for improvement.
  • Establish and track metrics to measure and understand the team's efficiencies, buying timeliness, and process throughput. Make recommendations for areas of improvement highlighted by the metrics.
  • Identify key areas of procurement activities that fall under Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOX) compliance requirements, such as financial reporting, internal controls, and segregation of duties.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to streamline procurement processes, optimize supplier relationships, and reduce costs while maintaining quality standards.
  • Develop effective processes and policies to strengthen internal controls, enhance financial reporting integrity, and ensure compliance with regulatory mandates.
  • Review accounts, departments, and programs that have been coded to purchase requisitions and work with the AP, Finance and Accounting teams to resolve discrepancies.
  • Collaborate with Accounting team on general ledger reconciliations, account string maintenance, internal controls and other ad hoc activities such as audit requests.
  • Work with Finance, Accounting, and IT teams to develop a P2P systems roadmap.
  • Provide ongoing and project-specific support to Category Managers.
  • Support Stakeholders in supplier selection.
  • Conduct data gathering and analytics in support of negotiations and category strategies.
  • Conduct market assessments, create and project manage sourcing events (e.g. Requests for Proposals), and analyze proposals to summarize responses including cost and pricing.
  • Manage processing of credits/rebates and collaborate with Accounts Payable in invoice resolution issues as necessary.

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Bachelor's degree in Science, Business or related field.
  • 5+ years of procurement experience (biotech or pharmaceutical industry preferred; knowledge of cGMP a plus) in sourcing, operations, finance, supply chain or similar experience.
  • Strong attention to detail to ensure accuracy of requisitions, vendors, and Generate's books and records.
  • Experience building relationships with both internal colleagues and external vendors.
  • Motivated, well organized and goal-oriented team player with ability to thrive in a fast-growing company.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, Lucid or Visio, and Tableau.
  • Exercise judgement when resolving Procurement discrepancies and escalating for discussion among appropriate stakeholders as needed.
  • Highly collaborative and agile team member.
  • Possesses organizational, multi-tasking, and prioritizing skills.
  • Can deliver professional and effective communications that are persuasive, and result in positive impact on the business Strong decision-making, problem-solving, and analytical skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with Coupa and Net Suite
  • Experience with systems implementations and process automation
  • Biotech or Life Sciences Industry experience
