This Post-Doctoral candidate will work with a multidisciplinary team to investigate polymer and polysaccharide materials with other ophthalmic additives, small molecules, and active pharmaceutical ingredients to improve the performance of Class II and Class III ophthalmic medical devices. Project work will include formulation development, material characterization, device fabrication and analytical characterization of the finished products. This role will require the ability to characterize and optimize formulation processes and post-processing using innovative design of experiments, problem solving, modeling and decision-making making tools.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Investigate and characterize multicomponent polymeric hydrogel systems to understand the relationships between chemistry, processing, morphology, and performance.
  • Develop novel polymer-small molecule hydrogel systems that generate intellectual property and deliver new patient benefits for ophthalmic medical device applications.
  • Conduct independent and collaborative research of a highly complex nature where advanced characterization tools and data analysis is applied to characterize the mechanism of interaction.
  • Apply a broad based of scientific knowledge to develop evidence-based strategies to develop desired material networks and polymer hydrogel performance.
  • Candidate will work with a team composed of chemical engineers, analytical scientist, polymer scientists, biochemists, material scientists, and medical professionals.
  • Work at a high technical expertise level involving planning development and design of materials, equipment, and/or processes within a cGMP-controlled lab environment.
