The Fakira Lab at the Cooper Medical School of Rowan University is looking for a postdoctoral fellow to conduct research on neuropeptide receptors in pain and addiction.

The project is focusing on a G-protein coupled receptor which was recently deorphanized and will entail conducting behavioral pharmacology assays in rodent models to determine the role of this receptor in alleviating opioid-induced side effects such as tolerance and addiction.

A PhD in Neuroscience or related field is required. Previous behavioral pharmacology experience working with mice is strongly desirable. The laboratory also conducts research using biochemical techniques for measuring protein/RNA, immunocytochemistry/imaging, and electrophysiological techniques.

The post-doctoral fellow will be expected to design and perform experiments, draw valid conclusions, and apply this knowledge to devise testable hypotheses.

The successful candidate will have to work independently and collaboratively with co-workers, the willingness to learn new techniques and, and the motivation to move the project forward quickly.

Salary will be according to the negotiated labor agreement between the American Federation of Teacher union and Rowan University, which aligns with NIH PGY0.

The post-doctoral fellow will be evaluated every year by the principal investigator and continues employment is contingent on continued funding.
