Job Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Data Science / Actuarial Summer Intern to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about data science and have a strong desire to learn and grow in the field.

Office Location: This internship is based out of our beautiful West Creek Office location in Goochland County.

Office Hours: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 4:30pm

This is a paid internship and will span 10 to 12 weeks beginning in June 2024 and ending in August 2024.

Responsibilities:
  • Work with the data science team to support the development of predictive models for insurance applications.
  • Analyze large datasets using statistical software such as Python or R, with an emphasis in exploratory data analysis.
  • Create visualizations and enhance reports to communicate findings to stakeholders.
  • Assist in enhancing Excel based calculators using Macros / VBA.
  • Collaborate with other teams to identify opportunities for data-driven decision making.
  • Assist in competitive market research including building company profiles, compiling recent company actions, comparing product and rating details, etc.
  • Assist in compiling data needed to submit Data Calls to the Bureau of Insurance.
Qualifications:
  • Currently pursuing a degree in data science, statistics, mathematics, data analytics, computer science, or a related field.
  • Experience with Excel required.
  • Experience with R or Python preferred.
  • Experience with SQL, VBA, or Power BI desired.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
