The Details:
Position Type: Year Round
Start Date: When position is filled
Pay: $16.00 to start
Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week with onsite evening monitoring (quarterly alternating days off)

CARETAKER DUTIES

  • Opening and closing the facility.
  • Arming/disarming security system.
  • Empty all outdoor trash cans at closing.

Restrooms

  • Maintenance/cleaning daily. Before museum is open and as needed throughout the day.

Reception center/office

  • Maintain clean windows, clean floors and dust-free surfaces.
  • Includes vacuuming floors, mopping bathroom, cleaning sink, and toilet.

All display buildings and depot

  • Maintain clean windows, clean floors and dust-free surfaces.
  • Clean displays and display areas, including glass display case surfaces.
  • See that the walkways are swept clean and are safe.
  • Clear snow and ice from walk surfaces before allowing traffic.

Library Arts building

  • Assure that the conference room and bathroom are always clean.

Grounds

  • Fertilize lawns once or twice in the spring/summer season.
  • Water and feed shrubs, bushes, trees etcetera.
  • Mow, trim and edge lawns on a weekly basis.
  • Weed as needed around trees, along walkways and around sprinklers, along fence lines and in outdoor display areas.
  • Control weeds by pulling and/or cutting.
  • Prune trees and bushes as needed.

Equipment

  • Security system: replace batteries when needed, clean sensors, and respond to alarms.
  • Run and check roof sprinklers on depot monthly.
  • Maintain septic tank monthly treatments. Order pump service as needed.
  • Start and run motorized equipment weekly.
  • Check and change, if needed, anti-freeze in motorized equipment for winter.
  • Locate, map and service all fire extinguishers June and December yearly and as needed.

Sprinkler system seasonal service

  • Drain and winterize for winter, replace insulation in valve boxes. Reactivate in early spring.
  • Sprinkler System maintenance/adjustments as needed, repair and replacements as needed.

Swamp coolers seasonal service

  • Drain and winterize for winter. Clean, replace pads and reactivate for summer.

Fire boxes

  • Flush and check insulation for winter.

Other duties as assigned.

Basic construction, basic plumbing, basic electrical helpful but not required.

Open/close and responsible for security system

1st and 3rd Quarters – Jan/Feb/March and July/Aug/Sept

Priority

  • Restrooms maintenance/cleaning/trash collection
  • Daily preferable before 10:00 am and as needed throughout the day

Daily – While opening

  • Dust all display cases, depot desk/office area and baggage area

Daily – While closing

  • Clear cobwebs on building exteriors
  • Inspect all buildings and note repairs needed
  • Sweep displays

Reception center/office

  • Clean windows & dust – Tuesday and Friday
  • Vacuum/sweep/mop – Tuesday and Friday, and as needed
  • Clean bathroom – Tuesday and Friday

Buildings

East side, West side and Depot

  • Window washing monthly
  • Floors weekly
  • Display glass weekly
  • Clean inside displays, floors and dust everything
  • Conference restroom – every Sunday including floor

As needed

  • Mowing weekly
  • Weeding weekly
  • Watering
  • Pruning
  • Clearing leaves from exhibits

Monthly

  • Septic tank treatment – first Wednesday monthly – pump as needed
  • Run engines/service as needed
  • Run sprinklers on top of depot – March through October
