How you make a difference

The Nursing Assistant performs basic and specialized nursing care functions under the direction of licensed nurses in accordance with local and regulatory policies and procedures. They work closely with other members of the healthcare team to plan and implement patient care activities and ensure safety. After completing a general orientation, Nursing Assistants are assigned to different areas, such as residential units, clinics, or infirmaries, to provide adequate nursing care to patients.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist patients with ADLs including bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
  • Help patients with medical equipment and transfer them between bed, chair, and other departments.
  • Take vital signs and record measurements such as height and weight.
  • Observe patients for changes in health status and report to the licensed nurse.
  • Assist licensed nurse with patient assessments and remove potential hazards in patient surroundings.
Qualifications & Requirements

Education

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.

Licenses/Certifications

  • Current certification to practice as a Nursing Assistant in the state of practice is desired.
