The ICU Nurse Practitioner (NP) Incumbent executes position responsibilities that demonstrate leadership, experience, and creative approaches to management of complex patient care.


Duties include, but are not limited to:


Lead and organize delivery of care to assure continuity of care and peer accountability for practice, including access to care and discharge planning.

Use advanced clinical knowledge/judgment to promote staff involvement in planning, decision-making, and evaluating outcomes.
Function as an expert in clinical practice and/or areas related to the assigned roles and responsibilities.

Systematically evaluates current practice and formulating outcomes for groups of patients and/or organizational processes within an area of expertise.

Guides, develops, and supports staff from a leadership perspective.
Use professional standards of care, scientific evidence, and practice to evaluate programs and/or service activities.
Supervise and coordinate activities of the physician health team to ensure optimal patient care services. Demonstrates leadership skills in improving patient care delivery systems.

Performs diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to assist the Critical Care Physician in diagnosing medical and surgical problems and prescribing necessary treatment and services for quality patient care.

Take patient histories, conduct physical examinations, assess diagnostic impressions, formulate a medical plan, and record the data in the patient's record; write progress notes and narrative discharge summaries; prepare patient workups and summaries noting pertinent positive and negative findings.

Order and schedule laboratory studies and diagnostic procedures; explain the necessity, preparation, nature and anticipated effects of scheduled diagnostic and therapeutic procedures to the patient and family.

Monitor progress of patients, and maintain record of each patient's progress.

Participate in teaching medical students, physician assistant students, and nurse practitioner students in complex techniques and procedures, which are unique to a specific clinical setting.

Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
Establish and maintain relationships within the service, facility management and other services that result in improved care.
