Position Summary
The Assistant Director of TRIO Student Support Services will assist in the overall administration of the SSS program.

This includes coordinating activities with the Center for Career Readiness, Student Living and Campus Engagement, Office of Financial Aid, and Center for Student Success.

The Assistant Director is responsible for the identification and recruitment of SSS eligible students and supporting the Director in implementing a successful program.

The Assistant Director is also dedicated to implementing the University's TRIO Student Support grant.

Major Responsibilities
The major responsibilities of the SSS Assistant Director include but are not limited to the following:
Works in collaboration with the Director to conduct assessments for program participants to determine individual needs and appropriate services
Will conduct workshops or classroom session on course selection and the 4-year academic plans
Responsible for updating academic and career objectives in individual participants files
Assists the Director in supervising project programming, research experiences, budget management, recruitment initiatives and social media presence for SSS participants
Will meet with new students to provide guidance on college academic program, career, financial aid, financial wellness (literacy), and scholarship activities for TRIO eligible participants
Maintains a student caseload of students and and provides program participants with one-ono-one personal, academic, and financial aid guidance and will make referrals to other offices
Assist the director with research on the public and private financial aid and scholarships available for low-income and first generation and disable students
Supports the Director with identifying student difficulties and providing effective interventions to deal with such problems as the student's lack of attendance, financial problems, transportation and childcare needs, low self-esteem, poor time-management and/or study skills, and academic difficulty
Will assist SSS participants to use the services offered by the Center for Career Readiness, especially career search and interest inventory
Will plan a monthly on campus cultural and/or academic event for SSS participant
Coordinates collaborative student-driven activities between TRIO programs including conferences, graduate school visits, and cultural events off campus
Will work with Navigate platform to maintain case notes of all SSS participants to maintain the communication with faculty and staff members from the Center for Student Success, especially the Success Coaches
Will support the functions of the Director of SSS with support for the completion and submission of Annual Performance Reports for the TRIO Programs
Serves on committees as assigned or supported by the Program Director
Other duties as assigned
Driving Responsibilities
Drive to various locations on occasion for events/field trips.
Travel
Supervises Will assist the Director as needed in their absence with staff and peer tutors
Education & Experience Qualifications
A bachelor's degree required in education, psychology, social work, sociology or related field
Graduate level degree preferred in educational leadership or administration; or social work, counseling or development studies; or a subject area with immediate and demonstrable relevance to assisting low-income, first-generation, or disabled students
Experience working with academic programming, academic support services, student life, residential life, and/or student engage and leadership is required
1-2 years of experience preferred working with grant funded programs supporting first-generation low-income students
Minimum Skills/Abilities
This position requires excellent project management skills and the ability to stay on task.

The Assistant Director position also requires strong communication skills, both oral and written, and the ability to work collegially and collaboratively across a variety of offices and with several external partners.

The person in this position will possess strong prioritization skills.

The Assistant Director will also pay a great deal of attention to details, have the ability to meet strict deadlines, be adaptive and flexible, have the capacity to handle sensitive information, be able to garner support for new programs and initiative and exercise excellent independent judgement.

The Assistant Director must be able to work evenings and weekends on occasion.

Able to drive a 12 passenger van to occasionally transport students to events/field trips. Must maintain a clean driving record as defined by University insurance carrier guidelines.

Motor vehicle records will be monitored regularly using NYS License Event Notification Service or License Monitor, Inc for out-of-state licenses.

Will be required to attend van training annually.
