The Opportunity:
4 month work term: May - August 2024
How You Will Contribute:
This is an intern position, so expectations and responsibilities will be proportional to education and experience. Successful candidate will be teamed with experienced developer(s) and perform activities with guidance. All development activities are on a bare metal CPU and written in C on custom coherent optical modem.
Examples of responsibilities are:
- Learn development environment & processes: Linux, git, bitbucket, JIRA, lab (load software & firmware on product and simulators), code and document inspections, and testing.
- Debug/address specific issues – including reproduction, resolution, test and inspections.
- Implement software enhancements, from adding new test/debug commands to enabling new coherent modulation types – including design, coding, documenting, testing and inspections.
The Must Haves:
- Working towards completion of Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Computer Engineering
- C programming language experience
- Good knowledge of embedded systems, drivers, mutual exclusion, synchronization, interrupt handling, inter-process communication, etc.
- Positive work attitude, highly motivated and an ability to seek out answers with a willingness to learn and work independently
- Strong verbal and technical writing skills
- Collaborates well in a team environment
Assets:
- Familiarity with optical modulation concepts such as QPSK, QAM
- Low-level Real-Time Software/Firmware Development
- Ability to understand CPU Hardware architectures and Timing Diagrams
- Bare Metal (No OS), Linux
- Linux as a software development environment
- Control algorithms such as PI, PID, LQR, etc.
- Device Driver and/or chip configuration/monitoring
- Digital Signal Processing, ADC, DAC, FFT, IFFT, various time/frequency domain filters
