Main Purpose of Job

The main purpose of this position is to provide epidemiologic and programmatic support for surveillance and special studies of various communicable diseases of interest to the Maryland Emerging Infections Program (EIP), primarily those related to viral respiratory diseases including COVID-19, influenza, and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). This position will be responsible for conducting active population-based surveillance for laboratory confirmed COVID-19, influenza and RSV hospitalizations. This position will be developing and implementing COVID-19, influenza and/or RSV related special studies (e.g. evaluating vaccine effectiveness to prevent hospitalizations). This position will also be analyzing surveillance data, assisting with MDH COVID-19, influenza and/or RSV response activities. This position will also be writing scientific and programmatic reports. This position will be communicating program information to federal, state and local stakeholders.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education:�� A Master's degree in the field of Public Health from an accredited college or university with a minimum of three graduate courses in Epidemiology and one graduate course in Biostatistics.\r
Experience: Two years of experience in designing and conducting epidemiological studies and investigations for disease surveillance as an Epidemiologist after receipt of the Master's degree. \r
Note:�Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service�experience as a commissioned officer in Health Care Science classifications or Clinical Lab, Medical Scientists, or�Bio Medical Lab Officer specialty codes in the health research field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.\r

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

The desired candidate should possess the following:\r

1. Experience working with hospital infection preventionists.\r
\r
\r
2. Experience reviewing and abstracting data from medical records and/or laboratory reports.\r
\r
\r
3. Experience completing standardized case report forms.\r
\r
\r
4. Experience in infectious disease surveillance programs.\r
