Summary

This position performs uncomplicated technical biological science tasks common to natural resource management and is typically associated with and supportive of a professional field; work may involve substantial elements of the work but requires less than full knowledge of the field invoved.

This positin reports to a specialist or resources manager in the same or related field.

Duties

Incumbent must be able to work independently, setting daily work assignments with other biological technicians. Additionally, incumbent will be working with interns, government research partners and specialists.


Incumbent will carry out the exotic plant control program using chemical, manual, mechanical and biological application techniques and removing diseased trees.

Work varies from standing, walking and hiking over rough terrain carrying a three gallon backpack sprayer to pulling or cutting exotic vegetation.

The main focus will be herbicide treatment of noxious weeds and mechanical removal of woody fuels. Other duties may involve plant identification, vegetation monitoring, biological control collection and distribution.

The use of standard pesticide and biological control field and safety equipment will be required as well as the use of global positioning systems (GPS units), computers, cameras, and on and off road vehicles.

Incumbent will be required to operate an ATV on a daily basis for herbicide applications. The incumbent will also assist with the removal of burrowing mammals from archeological sites within the park. This will include using mechanical techniques and the data collection associated with it. These duties have gained additional importance and may have precedence at times.

Possession of a North Dakota Pesticide License or other states pesticide license which can have reciprocity is desirable but not required for qualification.

An opportunity to take the North Dakota Pesticide exam will be given.
