Medical Technician

THIS IS NOT A VIRTUAL POSITION, YOU MUST LIVE WITHIN OR BE WILLING TO RELOCATE WITHIN A COMMUTABLE DISTANCE OF THE DUTY LOCATION
Major duties and responsibilities include:
Performs phlebotomy (venipuncture) and urine specimen collection on patients ranging from minimally to critically ill who may be hard to draw.
Receives and processes a variety of laboratory specimens using processing methods (centrifugation, splitting specimens into aliquots, and separation of components) in accordance with established laboratory policies and procedures.
Performs glucose tolerance testing by administering pretest substances, drawing blood at specific time intervals, and testing for Fasting Blood Sugar levels with the authorized blood gas instrument located in the Chemistry department.
Assists in disinfecting and closing the Phlebotomy Room at the end of the shift.In emergency situations, initiates appropriate emergency alert notifications.
Collects and disposes of biohazard materials according to standards and procedures established by regulatory agencies and Departmental Safety SOP.
Receives specimens and accompanying request forms for tests that can be performed and checks for proper identification.Properly labels specimens, prepares aliquots, and delivers specimens to appropriate testing section in the laboratory department.
Processes Microbiology, Hematology, Chemistry, Serology, Blood Bank, and Immunology specimens for testing.
Performs accessioning procedures either manually or by use of computer terminal; labels specimen and request form with Accession number labels; and specimens to one of the laboratory Sections responsible for performing the test, including transfer of the specimen and request to an outside laboratory when required.
Performs other duties as assigned.Work Schedule:
Monday-Friday 7:30am-4:00pm
