Program Overview

Allied World presents an amazing opportunity for students aiming to kickstart a career in the insurance sector. Various positions are open in our 8-week Summer Internship Program for 2024, starting in June. This structured program offers hands-on learning, personalized mentoring, and training to equip interns with the skills for a successful underwriting career at Allied World. Internship placements are available in our key branch offices across New York, New Jersey, Farmington, Atlanta, Philadelphia, San Francisco, and Los Angeles.

Interns will focus on specific product lines like General Casualty, Professional Lines, Reinsurance, Actuary, Claims, Finance, and IT. Additionally, they will gain insights into essential service functions including underwriting, actuarial, claims, operations, business development, finance, and IT.

Program Components
  • Understanding Allied World's history, mission, market position, and value propositions
  • Basics of underwriting (analyzing and reviewing accounts, risk assessment, pricing, and broker negotiation), Reinsurance, Actuary, Claims, Finance, IT
  • Engaging in business development to expand Allied World's reach through broker relationships
  • Collaboration across different departments: underwriting, claims, actuarial, operations, compliance, finance, legal, IT, risk management, and loss control
  • Valuable exposure to senior management
  • Building a network of connections with Allied World staff
Qualifications
  • Enrolled in a Business, Risk Management, Insurance, Actuarial Science/Mathematics, Finance/Accounting, or Computer Science program
  • Third-year undergraduates moving into their final year
  • Demonstrated leadership skills through extracurricular activities, internships, or work experience
  • Strong problem-solving abilities
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to build effective relationships
  • Proactive and able to work both independently and in teams
  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills
  • Detail-oriented, organized, and goal-oriented
  • Driven and eager to learn about the insurance industry
  • Understanding of business operations and adaptability to change
  • Legal authorization to work in the U.S. permanently
  • Willingness to consider relocation post-graduation
Compensation

Rate: $20.00/hr - $22.00/hr
