Ridgefield Academy is searching for a full time librarian to join our preschool and lower school team. In this position you will partner with teaching staff in the development of student literacy through the management of the library; to provide specialized instruction to faculty and students; and to oversee the selection, organization, utilization and maintenance of library books and other resources.

Responsibilities (include but not limited to):

-Collaborate with teachers to provide integrated instruction for students in information and technology literacy

-Assist students and staff in identifying appropriate resources for achievement of student learning goals

-Reinforcing strategy-based reading instruction to help students make meaning from text; supports students' interaction with a variety of genres

-Maintain a library culture that is organized and encourages the appreciation of literature, and supports the school's programs

-Develop and maintain a diversified library collection of print and electronic resources to support the development of student literacy

-Keep up with information management trends and teach students research skills

-Manage equipment, materials and annual budget of the library

-Partner with faculty and work on special projects as needed and assigned by the Lower School Head

-Participate in continuing education programs for professional growth including in-service

courses and meetings as required

-Moving, lifting and storing of materials and equipment is required

-Use the automated library systems for collection, maintenance, purchasing, cataloging,

and inventory

-Establish and maintain collaborative and effective working relationships with students, parents,

and other school employees

-Maintain accurate records and reports for planning and budgeting purposes

-Bachelor's degree in Library Science or a related field preferred

-At least three years of previous experience working in a library or school environment

-Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to partner effectively with faculty

-Knowledge of current literature and professional trends in youth literature
