Behavioral Health at Capital Health:

At Capital Health Behavioral Health Specialists, we recognize the connection between behavioral and physical health. Our highly skilled psychiatrists, psychologists, therapists and advanced practice clinicians use innovative treatment modalities to help our patients overcome obstacles and lead healthier, happier lives. We diagnose and treat a broad range of behavioral health conditions, including (but not limited to):

· Major Depressive Disorder – A common but serious mood disorder that affects how you think, feel, and handle everyday activities. Some forms develop under specific circumstances.

· Anxiety Disorders including Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Phobias.

· Bipolar Disorder – A group of conditions marked by unusual shifts in mood, from highly energized (or manic) behavior to periods of hopelessness (known as depressive episodes).

· Schizophrenia – A chronic and severe condition that can include symptoms such as hallucinations, reduced expression of emotions, and difficulty staying engaged in everyday activities.

· Schizoaffective disorder – A combination of symptoms of schizophrenia and mood disorder (such as depression or bipolar disorder) that may occur at the same or different times.

· Impulse Control Disorders

· Personality Disorders

· Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder

· Family and Relational Issues

Treatment

Depending on the diagnosis, treatment may include medication management or one or more of the following therapy options:

· Individual Psychotherapy

· Supportive Psychotherapy

· Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

· Behavioral Therapy

· Problem-Focused Interventions

· Psychodynamic Psychotherapy

· Family Psychotherapy

· Couple Psychotherapy

· Group Psychotherapy

Other treatment modalities include:

Transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS) – Uses a targeted pulsed magnetic field, similar to what is used in an MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) machine. While the patient is awake and alert, TMS therapy stimulates areas of the brain that are underactive in depression.

Yoga therapy – Blends yoga poses and breathing techniques with traditional talk therapy to help strengthen social attachments, reduce stress, and relieve anxiety, depression, and insomnia.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) – A psychotherapy that enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes to process painful events.

Through Mindfulness and Meditation Techniques, patients learn how to protect against anxiety, depression, and feelings of isolation. By becoming more focused and actively engaged in the present, patients can identify and manage hidden emotions, reduce stress, and improve their overall health.

Our team works closely with referring providers as well as Capital Health's Inpatient Mental Health Unit, Emergency Mental Health Unit, and mobile outreach and outpatient behavioral health services to provide the most appropriate and best possible psychiatric care and counseling services.
