Duties
  • Design and implement visual and acoustic inventory and monitoring studies of birds, in a variety of habitats (e.g., forests, deserts, grasslands) throughout the country.
  • Practice recovery planning and implementation for federally threatened and endangered species.
  • Develop application and implementation of technological approaches (i.e., acoustics, imagery, satellite tracking, motus) for improving bird conservation efforts.
  • Demonstrates experimental design and analyses of complex data sets.
  • Develops and writes successful grants and proposals, and successfully marketing personal and team capabilities to potential sponsors for new work.
  • Assembles multi-disciplinary teams to solve complex natural resources problems.
  • Establishes written and verbal communication skills to document findings through presentations, reports, and journal articles.
  • Completes fieldwork in a variety of environments, including those with temperature extremes and difficult terrain.
  • Uses quantitative tools, GIS, and programming languages (R, Python, etc.).
  • Completes work using technology and automated analyses of acoustic data and camera imagery.
  • Collaborates with military and/or civil projects, lands, or personnel.
