Village School, an independent TK-6 school in the Pacific Palisades, is seeking a full-time Learning Specialist to support children in their literacy skill acquisition and development and implement strategies to support attention and executive functions.

The Learning Specialist will work closely with the Assistant Head of School and Director of Teaching and Learning.

II.

LIST OF TASKS AND DUTIES:

  • Monday through Friday, from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
  • Provide one-on-one and small group support/instruction for students
  • Organize and oversee standardized testing for all students on a school plan
  • Read and summarize all Psych-Ed evaluations as necessary, develop formal school plans for
students, and monitor effectiveness in the classroom

  • Plan and implement specific instruction for students in small pull-out groups as well as
through push-in support

  • Conduct observations and screenings to determine if a student needs additional learning
support at school and monitor progress

  • Formulate and write year-end summary reports for students taught in small groups
  • Collaborate with teachers to support understanding of students' learning needs and to
differentiate classroom instruction

  • Attend Parent-Teacher Conferences when necessary to discuss student progress with parents
  • Lead student support team meetings with parents, teachers, outside evaluators/specialists
  • Counsel families on learning support and assessment accommodations
  • Assist teachers in written narratives and report cards of students with learning differences
  • Support the use of assistive technology for students within the community through training,
collaboration, and assessment

III. POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Candidates should have expertise in utilizing research-based teaching strategies, including
multisensory reading programs and research-based explicit writing instruction. They should also be
fluent in various assessment tools and comfortable facilitating and coordinating classroom-based and
individualized assessments. They must be well-versed in outside services, including but not limited to
academic and skill-based tutoring, speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, and
neuropsych evaluations.

  • Ability to recommend and lead targeted interventions
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills
  • A clear understanding of child development
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
