EducationBachelor's degree in Nursing required Master's degree in Nursing Informatics, Computer Science or related field preferred Experience5-7 years diverse clinical nursing practice experience, including management and teaching, experience in the development and evaluation of clinical applications, tools and processes, management of clinical data in delivering care to patients required Licenses and CertificationsRN - Registered Nurse - DC State Licensure required CPR - Cardiac Pulmonary Resuscitation CPR certification required Knowledge, Skills, and AbilitiesAdvanced knowledge and skills in the science of informatics attained through job experience, advanced education, or certification.Working knowledge in adapting or customizing existing information technology and clinical software.Ability to prioritize, manage and implement complex projects with strong analytical ability to solve complex clinical workflow problems.Demonstrates the use of evidence-based practice using analytical methods, statistics, and decision support tools in support of clinical practice.Ability to prioritize activities relative to goals and time frames, managing multiple levels of deliverables.Ability to communicate goals and priorities within a complex clinical/technical environment and to work effectively with a variety of groups and multidisciplinary teams.Demonstrated ability to present data and information to multiple levels of the organization and educate staff in the use and application of clinical information systems and point of care technologies.Contributes to the achievement of established department goals and objectives and adheres to MedStar Health policies, procedures, quality standards, and safety standards. Complies with governmental and accreditation regulations.Assesses existing infrastructure, administrative and clinical operations and evaluates clinicians' needs to forecast future requirements for point of care devices, information technologies, and enterprise clinical software.Collaborates with administrators, clinicians, healthcare managers, and informatics professionals in reviewing, recommending, developing, implementing, maintaining, optimizing, and evaluating clinical information technologies and clinical software appropriate for nursing and nursing care delivery.Determines appropriate clinical information technology resources to support nursing by assessing clinical work processes and work redesign requirements related to new clinical applications or mobile device technology.Develops strategies, policies and procedures for introducing, evaluating and optimizing clinical information technology and work redesign applied to clinical nursing practice.Participates in MedStar Health projects for the selection of enterprise clinical applications, including the evaluation of vendor product presentations and demonstrations.Evaluates factors related to safety, effectiveness, cost, and social impact when developing and implementing clinical information technologies.Identifies problems for research and supports a climate in which nurses conduct and integrate evidence and research into practice.Interprets and ensures nursing compliance with regulatory and accrediting agency requirements for use of clinical information technology, electronic data, and point of care clinical device applications.Maintains and advances knowledge and skills in nursing informatics through continuing education and/or advanced education.Participates in the development of clinical informatics training materials; Participates in clinical informatics training and instruction, implements and evaluates educational outcomes of clinical information system training programs for nursing and other clinicians.Provides consultation in the field of nursing informatics by participating on nursing and nursing informatics councils at the local or system level, and on hospital and relevant MedStar Health committees.Provides supervision in identifying, collecting, processing and managing data and information to support nursing clinical practice, administration, education, and research.Provides user support for clinical application issues in collaboration with MedStar IS and IS Infrastructure support and prepares staff to assist in providing unit-level clinical informatics support.Serves as a professional role model and functions as an effective change agent to enhance computer literacy of nursing staff and promote the support of clinical practice through effective use of the EHR.Participates in meetings and on committees and represents the department and hospital in community outreach efforts.Participates in multi-disciplinary quality and service improvement teams.
