Introduction

The Maryland Insurance\r
Administration (MIA) is an independent State agency that regulates Maryland's\r
insurance industry and protects consumers by monitoring and enforcing insurers'\r
and insurance professionals' compliance with State law. Through the diligence\r
of a highly professional staff of market analysts, financial analysts,\r
accountants, lawyers, law enforcement officers, actuaries, complaint\r
investigators, and others, the MIA works to facilitate a strong and competitive\r
insurance marketplace where consumers are well informed and treated fairly.\r
Staff members are subject matter experts who serve as a resource for lawmakers,\r
consumers, and other public and private entities.\r
The MIA is charged with a\r
broad range of responsibilities including the licensure of insurance carriers\r
and insurance producers (brokers/agents) operating in Maryland, the conduct of\r
financial examinations of companies to monitor financial solvency, and the\r
review and approval of rates and contract forms. The MIA investigates reports\r
of consumer fraud and consumer complaints about life, health, automobile,\r
homeowners, and/or property insurance. Insurance carriers are subject to market\r
conduct examinations and other actions to monitor compliance with Maryland\r
law.� The MIA also has a unit dedicated to consumer education and\r
outreach, which participates in hundreds of events and reaches thousands of\r
individual consumers annually.\r

Main Purpose of Job

Within the Consumer Education and Advocacy Unit (CEAU) is the Health Coverage Assistance Team (H-CAT). This position will assist those seeking health care services and provide assistance to navigate any health care coverage issues that impede their ability to obtain those services. This position will focus on behavioral health coverage issues but will also be able to assist with physical health care coverage issues. Additionally, this individual will assist Marylanders who need help understanding and using their health insurance and explore ways to help those who lack legal documentation access compensated coverage. This individual will support the mission by providing Marylanders with current and accurate information while providing support through their health coverage journey.\r

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree from an accredited college\r
or university.\r
Experience: One year of experience assisting consumers\r
with behavioral or physical health insurance coverage concerns and challenges.\r

DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Knowledge\r
of Maryland health insurance laws and regulations and/or federal regulations, including\r
behavioral health laws.\r

One year of experience reviewing and interpreting health insurance policies.\r
