Assistant Teacher

An Assistant Teacher is a full-time position supporting all aspects of the learning experience for students in one designated classroom. In general, Assistant Teachers follow the direction and curricular choices of the Lead Teacher. Periodically, Assistant Teachers will lead specific activities or units, and may function in the Lead Teacher role when that teacher is away from campus. The position follows the School's academic calendar, and is classified under the Fair Labor Standards Act as exempt.

Assistant teachers will:

? Support in establishing a learning community characterized by respect and rapport

? Redirect student behavior to prosocial outcomes

? Work with individual students and small groups of students in all subject areas

? Perform assigned lunch and recess duties

? Attend to the classroom environment such as displays and bulletin boards, keeping classrooms and materials orderly and attractive

? Participate in the life of the school, such as attending faculty meetings and assigned school functions outside of the regular school day to engage parents, highlight program, and promote the school

? Attend relevant meetings and trainings

? Serve as Lead Teacher when that teacher is away

? Teaching experience in an elementary school

? Effective written and verbal communication skills

? Relevant educational technology skills

? Strong collaborative skills

? Effective organizational skills

Preferred qualifications:

? College degree

? Affinity with Quakerism

Physical Requirements:

? Maintaining physical condition necessary for activities such as standing, sitting, walking, kneeling, crouching, stooping, squatting and occasionally lifting 40 pounds

? Ability to bend quickly and repeatedly, change positions frequently and sit on the floor

? Regularly use close and distance vision

? Turn, reach, and occasionally climb
