PSYCHOLOGIST

MAJOR FUNCTION:
Instructional support staff position, which provides comprehensive psychological services for students
experiencing learning and behavioral problems and for students exhibiting high-level abilities and talents.
Comprehensive psychological services include formal and informal assessment, counseling, behavior
management, consultation, research and in-service training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Utilizes psychological methods, instruments, and techniques for purposes of measurement,
understanding and prediction of student behavior

  • Facilitates and/or serves on problem-solving teams working with teachers, parents and students to
improve academic and behavioral performance

  • Provides reports to parent and school staff
  • Assists parents and schools in understanding data and in valid interpretation of data
  • Consults with teachers, parents, and school staff to maximize student success in the educational
setting

  • Links assessment to research-based interventions in developing plans to increase student success.
  • Provides leadership and/or guidance in the development of strategies and in progress monitoring
  • Responds to crises at schools within district
  • Provides mental health support to students and staff before, during and after a crisis
  • May provide individual and/or group counseling and skill groups for students
  • Understands and utilizes district and community resources in planning for students
  • Other duties as assigned by supervisor

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
A Specialist Degree or its equivalent in School Psychology, Psychology, or Educational Psychology, or
eligible for a Florida Educators Certificate in School Psychology.
