JOB SUMMARY

The ideal sommelier candidate is proactive, upbeat, thorough, team-oriented, and has an immaculate attention to detail. The sommelier is responsible for delivering excellent wine service, while working with the service team to create world class hospitality. This position will report to the Director of Wine.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Actively engage in service and lead with a hands-on approach
  • Take the lead in growing wine sales in the restaurants
  • Maintain and update wine lists with 86's prior to every service
  • Anticipate guest needs and maintain positive guest relations at all times
  • Advise guests on wines based on their personal taste and food pairings
  • Ensure wines are served at the right temperature and with the proper glassware
  • Maintain pars and report order needs
  • Help maintain the wine cellar, the beverage storeroom, and assist in monthly inventories
  • Create and participate in staff wine tasting and educational opportunities
  • Maintain cleanliness, sanitation and organization of assigned station and service areas
  • Complete opening side and closing side duties thoroughly and efficiently as assigned
  • Model the company's culture, vision, mission and core values at all times


REQUIREMENTS
  • Experience as a sommelier in fine dining or luxury resort preferred but not required
  • CMS or WSET certifications or equivalent from another accredited wine institution
  • Desire to learn about Hawaiian history and culture
  • Passionate about wine, food, and world class hospitality
  • Warm, friendly and an excellent communicator
  • Ability to teach and encourage service staff to develop their wine knowledge
  • Extensive knowledge of wine and formal wine service
  • Working knowledge of cocktails and spirits
  • Availability to work nights, weekends & holidays
SALARY:
  • $29.72 per hour
