Position Summary

The Pingry School's Dramatic Arts Department, located in Basking Ridge, seeks a 10-month, part-time Theater Carpenter to join a diverse academic community. The Carpenter, under the supervision of the Head of Technical Theater & Design, is responsible for the construction, mounting, load-in, strike, and rigging of scenery for 4 mainstage productions per season: the fall play in November, the winter musical in February, the senior play in March, and the spring musical in April. Additionally, the Department supports a largely student-run production as part of the Independent Senior Project (ISP) program. The work hours for the carpenter are generally 2:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. daily but can be negotiated based on availability. Safety is the primary concern, and candidates must understand safety protocol in a practicum setting. The ideal candidate should possess performing arts experience and must be able to manage heavy lifting and position set pieces according to specifications. The carpenter is committed to guiding young people as they develop their understanding of contemporary stagecraft in a student-centered theater environment. The candidate of choice seeks growth and learning every day, both personally and professionally, and inspires others to do the same through optimism, selflessness, flexibility, and teamwork.
