In this position you will protect the Air Force's Government Owned, Contractor Operated (GOCO) industrial plant, Air Force Plant (AFP) 42, including the business campus and all leased contractor sites, to support the manufacture of major Air Force weapons systems and ensure that the Fire Operations Flight provides Protection services.

  • As an Assistant Chief of Operations on a 24-hour duty shift, participates in the administration and planning of comprehensive fire prevention and firefighting and rescue program of a sufficient magnitude at the installation.
  • Responsible for planning, developing, implementing, reviewing and evaluating the program. Receives new regulations or procedures from the Fire Chief and disseminates information to subordinates who assist in carrying out of the program on a regular and recurring basis.
  • Serves as the on-scene commander of a fire crash scene until relieved by the Fire Chief or Deputy Fire Chief.
  • Determines the best course of action to minimize loss or damage from fires or explosions. Directs the placement of firefighting equipment and personnel to ensure maximum utilization in fire control or aircraft crash rescue operations.
  • Performs supervisory personnel management responsibilities.
  • Advises and provides counsel to employees regarding policies, procedures, and directives of management. Selects or recommends selection of candidates for vacancies, promotions, details, and reassignments in consideration of skills and qualifications, mission requirements, and EEO and diversity objectives.
  • As the Station Chief, provides immediate oversight and direction of day-to-day operations at a fire station for an assigned shift.
  • Directs the operation of firefighting vehicles such as pumpers, aerial ladder trucks, and crash-rescue trucks.
  • Supervises the performance of crash-rescue and firefighting duties at airfields handling complex aircraft (e.g. fighters, bombers, cargo, passenger).
  • Supervises the performance of structural firefighting duties for a variety of facilities which may include research and/or large industrial complexes; hazardous materials (HAZMAT) containment and control duties; and/or Basic Life Support duties.
  • Supervises the rescue of personnel and immediate first aid measures to alleviate further injury and prepare the victim(s) for transport to a medical facility.
  • Supervises the maintenance of firefighting equipment and fire station facilities.
  • Complies with health, safety, security, and environmental rules and procedures and performs work in a manner that enhances the safety of the work environment.
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles, methods, techniques, and practices of firefighting and rescue operations.
  • Knowledge of the operation of fire department communications equipment.
  • Ability to operate and direct others in operating under stressful and dangerous conditions.
  • Ability to formulate and effectively implement firefighting emergency response plans and to direct personnel in such operations.
