Summary

The duties of the Supervisory Orthotist Prosthetist, are to administer, or perform work concerned with rendering prosthetic and orthotic services to disabled patients in the VISN 20 catchment area. Specifically, the Supervisory Prosthetist will supervise the Orthotic and Prosthetic Clinical staff at a large Class 1 A facility and the associated satellite facility of that primary site (in this case Portland Oregon and Vancouver Washington)

Included in this series is such work as:

  1. Collaborate and participate with planning, process improvements, training, and implementation of process and procedure changes as instructed by the Clinical Manager.
  2. Serves as the Supervisor of the Orthotist Prosthetist staff at a Large lA facility in the Prosthetics Department within VISN 20 as well as the satellite O&P Laboratory affiliated with the primary duty location (Vancouver).
  3. Serves as liaison between Regional Amputation Center PMRS staff including RAC prosthetist and the Prosthetics and Sensory Aides services.
  4. Monitors and report on the workload, productivity, timeliness and efficiencies of the O&P staff at their facility as it relates to the delivery of O&P services and the overall delivery of healthcare.
  5. Serving as an advisor to the physicians, therapists and other medical professionals at their assigned facility regarding indications and contraindications of prosthetic and orthotic components, prescription criteria.
  6. Ensures accreditation of the facility by ABC or BOC and other regulatory compliance with VHA Directives and Regulations.
  7. Ensures the NCOPE Residency Program at the facility remains in good standing
  8. Responsible for assignment of duties of facility O&P staff, ensuring performance metrics are met or exceeded and provides feedback to staff regarding performance through bi-annual performance reviews and provides recommendations with regards to appointment, awards, advancement and when appropriate, disciplinary actions.
9. Maintains vendor relations as it pertains to the O&P Limb and Orthotic Purchasing agreements and contracts, including overseeing and evaluating services provided by those contracted vendors.

*Supervisory duties will also include oversight of Eugene, Roseburg, and White City VAMC O&P Clinical staff.
