DIRECTOR, NATIONAL LIBRARY OF MEDICINE

THE POSITION: The National Institutes of Health (NIH) is in search of outstanding candidates for the role of Director, National Library of Medicine (NLM). NLM, part of NIH, aims to facilitate medical and related sciences advancement, and to support the sharing of crucial scientific information essential for the development of medicine and public health. With expertise in information science and data innovation, NLM is involved in research, development, and training in areas such as biomedical informatics, computational biology, and health information technology. Notable digital resources provided by NLM include PubMed and the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI). This leadership position involves overseeing NLM operations, managing the world-renowned biomedical library, and ensuring accessibility of electronic information and data resources utilized by millions worldwide.

LOCATION: Bethesda, MD (NIH Main Campus)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • MD and/or Ph.D. in biomedical or related fields
  • Recognized expertise in biomedical research
  • Proven experience in managing complex research programs
  • Skill in data science and diverse scientific leadership
  • Ability to set and analyze program objectives
  • Strong financial and human resource management capabilities
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience in collaborating with various organizations and stakeholders
  • Capability to maintain a diverse and productive work environment

SALARY/BENEFITS: Salary commensurate with experience and Federal benefits provided, including retirement, health insurance, and savings plan. Potential recruitment/relocation incentives available.
