General Summary of PositionThe Hyperbaric Technician operates the hyperbaric chamber and performs delegated functions as a member of the patient care team to provide a variety of multi-skilled services. These activities contribute to meeting the health care, safety and comfort needs of patients, and are performed in accordance with all existing regulatory, state and company standards, policies, and procedures. The duties of the Wound and Hyperbaric Technician can vary dependent on the physical location. These functions are performed in accordance with all applicable laws and regulations and MedStar Georgetown University Hospital's philosophy, policies, procedures, and standards.

Primary Duties:


Provides safe and appropriate basic patient care, to help patients achieve established outcomes by collecting data points to provide the Registered Nurse (RN), Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), or physician with information utilized in assessment.

Performs direct patient observation; reports changes in patient condition to RN, LPN, or physician and assists in reinforcing patient education.

Responsible for patient education.
Performs various other duties such as dressing breakdowns, applications and assists with relocating patients from wheelchairs to gurneys. Assists with positional adjustments of the patient during wound care and hyperbaric treatments.
Maintains a safe, clean, and orderly environment for patients and visitors by performing the selected duties assigned. Assist in the start-up and shut down of the facility. Responsible for completing all required forms and tables correctly. Responsible for completing maintenance on time. Responsible for keeping supply par lists stocked.

Models' quality patient/customer services by demonstrating a willingness to serve all customers; maintain an awareness of patient needs and utilize the initiative to respond to those needs within skill level and scope of practice; utilizes tact, discretion, and compassion in dealing with other members of the team to ensure quality patient care.

Demonstrates willingness for self-improvement by collaborating with leadership to identify learning needs (reflective of the organization and of the individual) and seek instruction from appropriate sources.

Contributes to improvement by participating in meetings, training, in-service education, and performance improvement activities as directed. Ensures cost-effective utilization of resources within own control.

Qualifications:
High School Diploma or GED.
Attendance and successful completion of the Introductory to Hyperbaric Medicine Course.
Experience is preferred; however, we will train as needed.
Must be able to take the Certified Hyperbaric Technologist examination within 1 Year.
