Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with nursing and medical staff in development and review of standards
  • Provide direct nursing care when necessary
  • Oversee patient flow through UIHC continuum of care
  • Serve as active participant in inpatient rounding
  • Independently coordinate and facilitate patient care between multiple disciplines
  • Facilitate care of patient(s) requiring admission
  • Act as a clinical resource or consultant
  • Participate in implementation and requirements of managed care programs
  • Autonomously communicate with healthcare team and referring physicians
  • Provide leadership for direct patient care programs
  • Participate in decision-making process at unit/division/department level
  • Provide input into financial management activities
  • Participate in ongoing implementation of regulatory standards
  • Design and implement patient/family health education activities
  • Assist with designated quality database
  • Use relevant nursing research to improve clinical practice
  • Interact with staff, patients, medical staff, peers, and others professionally
  • Assume responsibility for maintaining clinical expertise
  • Develop management and consultant skills
  • Adhere to professional and legal standards of nursing practice
  • Maintain confidentiality of patient and staff information
  • Support a work environment that fosters teamwork
  • Analyze own performance and develop goals
  • Follow general policies and procedures
Requirements

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing required
  • Minimum 1 year providing direct nursing care or management/supervision of cardiovascular medical/surgical patient population required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Current certification in BLS required
  • Current license to practice nursing in the State of Iowa required
