Are you an undergraduate or graduate student passionate about outreach and communications that help amplify the voices of those who need help? AARP Maryland seeks an intern who can demonstrate strong communication and writing skills for traditional and social communications and wants to learn more about applying those skills to the conversation about aging. As an intern, you will gain hands-on knowledge about issues around caregiving, livable communities, fraud and scams, and many other issues affecting the 50+ population in Maryland. You will work in Maryland's state capitol, Annapolis, supporting outreach and communications in the state office. The position will begin in Fall 2024 and go through to the end of the year with the possibility of an extension.

Responsibilities

Provide social media support, help create compelling content that amplifies external releases, events, and other opportunities, and send tweets to promote content Support the creation of video content, identify stock photos, conduct video research, coordinate studio and field shoots, develop run of shows Help draft internal communications content (newsletters, emails) Engage volunteers in advocacy, community outreach, and communications activities Deliver strong communications to volunteers to consistently keep them up-to-date on state office activities and opportunities for volunteerism Develop and staff impactful virtual and in-person events around the state Coordinate fairs, workshops, events, and video/teleconferences Assist in maintaining the state office schedule of events
Qualifications

Prospective intern must be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university and be considered a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or post-doctorate student AARP also considers non-traditional interns who are looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers; this may include those who have previously graduated college and are now enrolled in a continuing education program Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, Excel) Proficient in using various technological tools, including cameras, microphones, lights, tablets, smartphones Editing software is a plus Excellent research and writing skills; keen proofreading skills Knowledgeable in using Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, TikTok Interest in social media and integrated communications Keeps up on current events and news Must have reliable transportation

Hybrid Work Environment

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as remote workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
