We are looking for a Senior Market Data and Reference Data engineer to join our New York team focusing on support for Epoch's quantitative trading team who are located across our Sydney and New York locations. You will be required to ensure our system efficiently handles and utilizes critical data sets, enabling informed decision making and superior client service delivery.

Epoch is looking for a good communicator and a team player who enjoys problem-solving and is capable of finding solutions to technical problems independently. Curiosity and the ability to learn quickly are essential for this role.

What your main responsibilities will be...

  • Design, develop, and optimize systems for acquiring, processing, and distributing market data and reference data.
  • Implement data validation, transformation, and cleansing processes to ensure data quality and accuracy.
  • Monitor data flows and performance metrics, troubleshooting issues and optimizing processes as needed.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to integrate data solutions into existing systems and workflows.
  • Participate actively in code reviews, architectural discussions, and project planning sessions.

What key skills are we looking for?

  • Proficient in Java and Python programming languages, with the ability to design and develop efficient data processing solutions.
  • Expertise in Data Science and ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) frameworks.
  • Strong fundamentals in data structures and algorithms.
  • Strong understanding of managing complex market and reference data.
  • Familiarity with data storage technologies (SQL, NoSQL databases), cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and containerization technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
  • Familiarity with data modeling, data integration techniques, and data quality principles.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work well across functional teams and organizational levels.

What other skills would be a bonus?

  • Master's degree in Computer Science, Data Science, or a related technical field.
  • Familiarity with financial data feeds, APIs, and market data providers.
  • Experience with real-time data processing and streaming technologies (e.g., Apache Flink, Kafka Streams).
  • Understanding of DevOps practices and CI/CD pipelines for data pipelines.

What experience should you have?

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
  • 5+ years of professional experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role, designing and implementing scalable data solutions, ideally in the financial sector.
