The Livestock Conservancy seeks an Executive Director to lead the organization in overall strategy, program development, fundraising, membership, and day-to-day operations. This individual will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, and external partners to successfully implement the organization's mission and vision. This position requires an experienced and successful leader with strong business and financial acumen. The Executive Director will be the external face of the organization and will embody an authentic, enthusiastic passion for our mission. The Livestock Conservancy is a well-regarded and unique conservation organization making a substantial impact as part of the larger movement toward local and sustainable agriculture in the United States by conserving the genetic diversity of heritage livestock and poultry breeds.

This position may work in The Livestock Conservancy headquarters in Pittsboro, NC, or the position may be structured as hybrid (working from home for a few days each week or month) or fully remote. Fully remote arrangements will be negotiated to account for occasional travel to Pittsboro, NC.

Work may require long hours and weekends, as well as occasional travel and farm visits. The office is dog-friendly.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Agriculture (animal science, poultry science, or ag communications), Non-profit Management, or Business.
  • Minimum 10 years of full-time experience in non-profit leadership.
  • Proven experience in a senior leadership role, program management, fundraising, and board management within the non-profit sector and a track record of success in achieving organizational goals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse constituents, including the Board of Directors, staff, membership, partner organizations, volunteers, and other stakeholders.
  • Experience cultivating a positive workplace culture with a comprehensive approach to policies, procedures, training, development, and recognition to support a productive, engaged team.
  • Demonstrated success in strategic planning and implementation, including long-term planning, mission-driven goal setting, and adapting to changes in the non-profit landscape.
  • Proven record of financially sound decision-making skills with intentional practices to remain consistent with organizational goals, member and stakeholder expectations, and available resources.
  • Ability to thoughtfully manage organizational risk and ensure compliance with relevant laws and regulations.
  • Willingness to adapt to changing conditions and perform other duties as assigned. Preferred Qualifications:
    • Advanced degree in a relevant field such as Agriculture (animal science, poultry science, or ag communications), Business Administration (MBA), or Public Administration (MPA).
    • Agricultural experience with livestock and poultry.
    • Knowledge of heritage breeds of livestock and poultry.
    • Ability to manage technology infrastructure and information systems to support operations and communications.
