The Registered Nurse Emergency Department position is located at the John Cochran facility of the VA Saint Louis Health Care System.

The incumbent is responsible for providing competent, evidence-based specialty care to assigned patients with oversight of licensed vocational nurses/nursing assistants as appropriate to the clinic setting.

This nurse provides patient care, care coordination, health promotion, health education and coaching on wellness, disease prevention, and chronic care management.

The nurse will assist in directing the provision of nursing education, orientation, competencies and providing quality improvement and outcomes utilization.

Duties include but are not limited to:

Self-directed in goal setting for managing complex client situations.

Assumes responsibility for the coordination of care focused on patient education, self-management, and customer satisfaction throughout the continuum of care.

Administers medications and procedures per established policies and guidelines.

Partners with the patient, family, and interdisciplinary team to promote effective and safe transitions across the health care continuum, including the Veteran's goals of care.

Delivers professional practice using the nursing process (assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation) with general supervision.
Provides Veteran/patient driven care by optimizing the patient experience, satisfaction, and/or safety for assigned patients.

Demonstrates the ability to communicate confidently with members of the healthcare team and demonstrate professional behaviors that promotes cooperation and teamwork.

Demonstrates professional behavior and works effectively with others, builds on strengths, and takes positive action to meet growing responsibilities.

Seeks knowledge and learning opportunities that support current nursing practice and self-evaluation.
Applies evidence-based practice/research, considering patient preferences to improve quality of care and resource utilization for assigned patients.

The incumbent consistently communicates and treats the Veteran and as appropriate the Veteran's family, caregiver and/or significant other, the Veteran representatives, visitors to VA facilities, all VA staff, and other customers in a courteous, tactful, and respectful manner.
