Description & Details:

The School of Natural Resource Sciences (SNRS) at North Dakota State University is seeking an outstanding individual for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the area of applied honey bee entomology. North Dakota is the top honey-producing state in the U.S., with 800,000+ honey bee colonies, with most transported cross country for commercial pollination services ). Duties of the successful candidate include: conducting research in the area of applied honey bee entomology, which could include (but is not limited to) bee behavior, bee health, ecology and resource use, integrated pest management, or hive/apiary management; developing a nationally recognized research program; securing funding through external sources; producing peer-reviewed publications and other relevant research and Extension outputs; mentoring graduate and undergraduate students; providing leadership and conducting Extension programming for the state related to honey bees and apiaries; and serving on SNRS, College, and University committees. Research and Extension efforts should help support relevant North Dakota stakeholders (e.g. industry, land managers) and the North Dakota Agricultural Experiment Station ) including maintaining or improving bee and apiary resources.

Minimum Qualifications:
A doctorate in Entomology or closely related field. Candidates who are near completion of their PhD are also encouraged to apply, but a doctorate is required by the start date.Demonstrated research experience with eusocial bee biology, behavior, health, ecology, or management.Evidence of publishing in peer-reviewed journals commensurate with academic rank and work history.Demonstrated verbal, interpersonal, and written communication skills.Evidence of Extension or outreach experience commensurate with academic rank and work history.Demonstrated ability to engage and collaborate with diverse groups.
Preferred Qualifications:
Evidence of applied honey bee researchEvidence of grant writing and/or successful acquisition of external funds to support research and Extension activities.Evidence of successful research or Extension collaborations.Experience working successfully with commercial beekeepers, farmers and land managers.Experience advising or mentoring undergraduate or graduate students from various backgrounds.
