Job Summary/Basic Function

The Graduate Assistant (GA) will serve both the Multicultural Scholars Program and the InclusiveMU Student Organization components for the Office of Diversity and Inclusion. The graduate assistant will be responsible for the following:

Multicultural Scholars Program

Program planning & logistics

Assist with managing & tracking program requirements

InclusiveMU Student Organizations

Presenting at L.E.A.D. Council meetings

Assisting with coordination of L.E.A.D. Council meetings

Assisting with assessing learning outcomes of L.E.A.D. Council

Assist with attending and monitoring InclusiveMU student organization events

International Student Success:

Assist with planning ISS outings
Assist with coordinating ISI and ISM dinners
Assist with attending and monitoring the International Student Association meetings and events
Other Office Duties:

Monthly creation and delivery of the office newsletter

Writing content for the newsletter
Collaborating with the dean of students and program coordinators about various components
Ensuring deadlines are met for completion and delivery
Posting to all social media outlets, including Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, with event flyers, live updates of events happening on campus, and a variety of diversity facts of interesting posts.
Assist with supervision of work-study students

Assist with collecting and assessing office programming data
Learning Outcomes:

Develop communication skills through the creation of social media posts.
Engage with multiple audiences (students and staff and community) through diversity and inclusion events.
Enhance skills of collaboration with other departments on campus.
Practice interpersonal skills by working with students and developing them into leaders.
Enhancing time management skills of cultural events, academic deadlines and personal commitments
Through the planning and coordination process the graduate assistant will apply teamwork, communication, technology and research
The student will also supervise student assistants and their projects assigned
To promote the mission of the office, the graduate assistant will demonstrate the desire and ability to follow emerging issues while adapting to the changing technology of Maryville.
The graduate assistant is also a resource for the cultural organizations in L.E.A.D. Council and our InclusiveMU student organizations.
Compensation:

Stipend for the academic year: $3000
Tuition award for the academic year: 12 credits/ up to a maximum of $9864 (dependent upon the program of the student).
The award is based on 20 hours per week for 15 weeks each semester. It is expected that students earn their credit hours in the fall and spring semesters by being enrolled in a minimum of 6 credit hours each semester. Credits must be earned by May 31 each year. Tuition waiver does not cover fees, private music lessons, books, or OneCard charges. Students will receive 1⁄2 of their annual stipend during the Fall semester and 1⁄2 of their annual stipend during the Spring semester. Each semester, the stipend will be divided into 8 payments. Fall stipends are paid on or about September 15-December 31. Spring stipends are paid on or about January 31-May 15

Minimum Qualifications


• Bachelor's degree required

• Must be studying in one of the following graduate programs at Maryville University: MBA, MED, MUTH, COMM, ACCT, ACSCI, DSCI, OCTH, SPLP, DPT, Ed.D


• Have an understanding of (or willingness to learn about) cultural differences and cultural competence

Successful candidates will be studying in a graduate-level program, have an understanding of (or willingness to learn about) cultural differences and cultural competence; excellent writing, organizational and interpersonal skills; an ability to work independently (with little supervision) as well as on a team; candidates must be willing to engage in activities that will encourage introspection and self-reflection; open-mindedness and inquiry; and empathy and intentionality.

The GA is expected to maintain academic and work standards to retain the position and is expected to be a degree-seeking student in a graduate program at Maryville University. The GA will receive feedback regularly, and a performance evaluation at the end of each semester. Some nights and weekends are required.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
