Role Summary The Neurocritical Care Society (NCS) is seeking a seasoned professional to lead development efforts. In this role, the Director of Development will create and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy, broaden industry financial support, and work closely with NCS and Neurocritical Care Foundation NCCF leaders to achieve annual fundraising goals. The Director of Development will also create, implement, and oversee the relationship building plan for industry partners including prospecting, cultivation, stewardship, solicitation, appreciation, and recognition. Key Focus Areas and Activities Working with the NCS Executive Director and the Boards of NCS and NCCF, the Director of Development will develop and execute the fundraising strategies in support of the annual budget, including:
  • Creating a donor strategic plan with a focus on cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship activities in alignment with the organizations' vision and priorities;
  • Identifying, cultivating and stewarding corporate, foundation, and individual donors with the capacity to provide a major gift;
  • Identifying meaningful donation opportunities for NCS membership;
  • Collaborating with the NCS Executive Director, NCS and NCCF leadership, and the NCS Sales Manager to actively involve them in donor engagement; and
  • Serving as the staff liaison to the NCS Standing Task Force on Development.
Responsibilities
  • Develop and execute an annual, comprehensive fundraising strategic plan that includes specific fundraising goals and targets, to include year-round industry relations cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship;
  • Monitor, evaluate, and report on a regular basis on the industry partners pipeline and funnel of prospects; track proposals and report on target deadlines to ensure timely response and completion;
  • Develop an approach to individual giving from NCS members, non-member wealthy donors, foundations, neurocritical care related industry, non-neurocritical care related corporations, and government agencies;
  • Report on progress of annual fundraising strategy, goals and targets;
  • Engage NCS and NCCF leadership and Philanthropy Committee as needed to accomplish fundraising strategy;
  • Research individuals, corporations, and foundations that could be potential donors;
  • Communicate regularly with Board of Trustees and Officers, NCCF staff, and NCS leadership;
  • Ensure grant fulfillment expectations are appropriate, and monitor and track execution;
  • Write grant applications and fundraising proposals; and
  • Manage a budget and track whether goals are being met.
Preferred Skills and Qualifications
  • At least ten years of non-profit fundraising experience, preferably in the health care sector.
  • Bachelor's degree in communications, business, public relations, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Proficiency in developing and executing comprehensive fundraising strategies, including major gifts, grants, corporate sponsorships, and individual donations.
  • Experience in cultivating and stewarding relationships with donors, sponsors, and funding organizations to ensure ongoing support and engagement.
  • Ability to research, write, and manage grant proposals, including understanding grant requirements, deadlines, and reporting procedures.
  • Proficiency in utilizing donor management software or CRM systems to track donor interactions, manage campaigns, and analyze fundraising data.
  • Understanding of nonprofit financial management principles, including budgeting, financial reporting, and fiscal responsibility.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to craft compelling fundraising materials, donor communications, and marketing campaigns.
  • Knowledge of online fundraising platforms, crowdfunding, social media fundraising campaigns, and digital marketing strategies to expand donor reach and engagement.
  • Ability to contribute to the development of long-term fundraising goals and strategic plans aligned with the organization's mission and objectives.
  • Experience in leading and motivating fundraising teams, as well as collaborating with other departments to integrate fundraising efforts with programmatic activities.
  • Understanding of legal and ethical guidelines governing fundraising practices, including donor privacy, gift acceptance policies, and regulatory compliance.
  • Capability to track and evaluate fundraising performance, generate progress reports, and provide insights for continuous improvement and decision-making.
  • Awareness of emerging trends and best practices in fundraising, as well as adaptability to evolving donor preferences, technological advancements, and market dynamics.
