About the Position:
*This role is situated in New York City and is HYBRID in nature. Candidates are required to be based in NYC and open to a blend of remote and in-office work.*
We are on the hunt for a dedicated Senior FinOps Engineer to join our dynamic team. As a key member, you will play a crucial role in overseeing our cloud expenditures, particularly with a focus on Google Cloud Platform (GCP). Your responsibilities will encompass monitoring costs, identifying areas for cost optimization, and even writing code to enhance efficiency. With your proactive attitude and sharp analytical abilities, you will aid in maintaining financial efficiency while supporting our expanding infrastructure requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
- Track and analyze cloud spending across various services, with a primary emphasis on GCP
- Create and manage dashboards and reports for monitoring cloud usage and expenditure
- Detect and flag any unexpected rises in cloud costs to the team
- Contribute to optimizing cost by adding to our Golang microservices codebase
- Collaborate with engineering and finance departments to forecast and regulate cloud budgets
- Implement cost-saving strategies such as resource optimization and efficient usage practices
- Offer recommendations and insights on cost management strategies to the VP of Engineering and other stakeholders
- Forge relationships with engineering teams to execute these recommendations
- Stay abreast of the latest tools and practices in cloud cost management
- Demonstrated experience as a FinOps Engineer, or a software engineer involved in significant cost optimization projects
- Solid grasp of cloud platforms, particularly GCP
- Proficient in utilizing cloud cost management tools (e.g., Google Cloud Cost Management, AWS Cost Explorer, etc.)
- Familiarity with microservices architecture, databases, and data flows
- Ability to code in Golang and proficiency in creating/maintaining Terraform scripts
- Knowledge of Kubernetes, Kafka, PostgreSQL, and related technologies
- Capability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
