Position Description

Assist with design, planning and implementation of projects and trainings for the Green Career Exploration Program. The Green Careers Exploration Program seeks to impact the exposure, education and credentialing opportunities for individuals historically excluded in the environmental and sustainability fields. Work alongside enterprise divisions, community partners and others to assist with general administration of the project and trainings.

Work Location: This position may be eligible for flexible work arrangements, including hybrid work with some days working remotely and some days working in the office, upon completion of training.


Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Assist project staff with program and training planning and development of program and training procedures.
  • Assist with various aspects of implementing project: promotion, participant registration and tracking, record keeping, etc.
  • Make presentations to community groups to recruit participation in department programs.
  • Work with contracted instructors and community partners on program implementation, participant recruitment of and obtaining consent to participate in activities.
  • Maintain records of project activities and enter and review data quality.
  • Work with project specific community agencies and partners providing planning, technical assistance and communications.
  • Develop and maintain relationships, education and training as needed.
  • Assist staff with preparation and conducting meetings.
  • Represent the department at meetings and community events to promote participation in programs or to meet project goals.
  • Assist with planning and conducting community based and other events and programs, to include logistics, scheduling speakers, set up and break down, and other event details as needed.
  • Assist with planning and facilitating trainings at multiple community locations, including set up and break down.
  • Assist project staff in evaluation of project effectiveness.
  • Write articles for City Talk and prepare fliers and other written communication to promote programs and special projects.
  • Perform administrative tasks such as formatting protocols, procedures guidelines, preparing agendas, assisting with preparation of project reports and budget reports, etc.
  • Participate in public health emergency preparedness training and response as assigned.
  • Assist with contracts management including establishing new contracts and outcomes.
Working conditions: Various office and training sites throughout Minneapolis.

Transportation: Reliable transportation required for access to and from various office and training sites throughout Minneapolis.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Public Health, Psychology, Social Services, Health Care, a related field of equivalent.

Experience: One year of experience performing duties similar to those described above.

Equivalency: An equivalent combination of related education and experience may be considered.

Cultural competency: Ability to relate and work effectively with people from diverse cultural, economic and ethnic backgrounds.

Language: Bilingual skills in Spanish or Somali are desirable.

Selection Process: The selection process will consist of one or more of the following steps: a rating of relevant education and experience and/or an oral examination (100%). It is important that your application show all the relevant education and experience you possess. This information will be used to determine which candidates will proceed in the selection process. A submitted application is also used to verify the answers to any supplemental questions. Only those candidates who attain a passing score (70%) on each step in the selection process will be placed on the eligible list. The City of Minneapolis Human Resources Department reserves the right to limit the number in any phase of the selection process.

Interview Selection: The hiring authority reserves the right to determine the maximum number of candidates to interview from the established eligible list. If the hiring authority decides to interview other than by exam score order, they may select additional people to interview based on a candidate's education or experience related to the field, work history, or skills uniquely related to the operational needs of the position.

Background Check: The City has determined that a criminal background check and/or qualifications check may be necessary for certain positions with this job title. Applicants may be required to sign an informed consent form allowing the City to obtain their criminal history and/or verify their qualifications in connection with the position sought. Eligible List: The names of applicants who meet minimum qualification and who pass the screening process shall be placed on the eligible list for employment consideration. This list will be certified to the hiring manager who may use the list to fill a vacancy of the same job title. This eligible list will expire two months after it has been established.

  • Knowledge of modern office computer software including word processing, spreadsheets and web-based navigation.
