Overview

As Head of Business Performance and Operations you will act as key liaison for the Data Generation and Scientific Communications Organization, with the Chief Patient Officer (CPO) team on relevant pipeline assets and Medical opportunities, the global medical affairs teams on coordinating aligned strategies and approaches, working with CPO counterparts to coordinate overall strategies, where relevant and working with Global and LOC Medical affairs to develop and implement a coordinated strategic and operational planning process.

Key Responsibilities
  • Enable the organization to plan, deliver and execute medical strategy and operations for the benefits of the CPO under the accountability of SVP, Data Generation and Scientific Communications for the CPO organization.
  • Drive planning and operational discipline across the Data Gen & Sci Comms and ensure integration with the overall business. Manages all Medical/business planning activities (brand planning, budgeting, governance bodies interaction, financial review): Accountable to drive the process end to end
  • Lead and facilitate the cross-functional and cross-regional communication and alignment of key strategic initiatives, the New GSK operating model, prioritization and resource optimization as well as shaping and supporting key CPO strategies.
  • Facilitate development and execution of integrated global product strategies across the full lifespan of a medicine, integrating strategy, portfolio, planning, and execution across CPO, Regions and key LOCs
  • Act as a strategic thought partner for the Data Gen & Sci Comms SVP and LT, providing the organization with structure, input and perspective to make prioritization decisions based on future goals and activities aligned with cross-functional partners and strategy
  • Ensure Data Gen & Sci Comms team are set up for success and effective across key external and internal global/local & cross-functional stakeholder meetings; Support and coach and GMATs where appropriate.
  • Define and coordinate the overall approach for strategic budget planning, across the Medical TA organization, working closely with the TA strategy & ops leads within medical TAs/ functions.
  • Track and manage Global TA resources, including headcount, and budget, partnering with Finance & Human Resources.
  • Lead KPIs, value reflection and tracking
  • Work with the LT to manage the activities of the organization, planning calendar, and key strategic events throughout the year; Coordinate LT meetings including recommendations to agendas, best practices, follow up and metrics to assess performance (decision making, commercial alignment).
  • Lead change management and communications activities related to organizational readiness initiatives.
  • Lead, coordinate and facilitate talent, development and performance discussions in partnership with Human Resources
  • Escalate timely issues appropriately and proactively seek aligned solutions, ensuring business continuity and efficiency across the TA. Lead acceleration of strategic projects as necessary (potentially transformational projects) within medical as part of the TA and GMA and provide strategic insights into projects lead by others
  • Represent Data Gen & Sci Comms on compliance committees and the implementation of SOPs and training.
  • Ensure effective and efficient alignment by liaising other enterprise stakeholders, including CPO LT; commercial and development colleagues; among others
  • Exemplify GSK Behaviors, in all above activities


Basic Qualifications:
  • MD, PharmD or PhD in a scientific discipline
  • Experience in Strategic Medical Affairs roles within a global Pharma Company at Director level or above
  • Understanding of Medical Affairs and the role it plays within the pharmaceutical industry and the impact it has on patient outcomes, and strategic integrated medical business planning
  • Experience in Pharma Strategy and Operations
  • Experience in at least one major tier 1 market
  • Experience of working in a global role
  • Experience of working in a matrix environment


Preferred Skills/Experience:
  • MBA
  • Robust knowledge of the at least one in country healthcare environment including disease-specific research priorities, public health need, competitor landscape, clinical practice trends and treatment guidelines evolution.
  • Commercial and/or business development experience
  • Leadership roles with direct reports, including excellent coaching and development skills
  • Excellent strategic thinking, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Executive presence and influencing skills
  • Successfully leading through change including Organizational/structural changes
  • Strong business acumen and experience building investment cases.
  • Strong networking skills and an ability to achieve through engaging the co-operation of others.
