KitBash is seeking an Engineering Manager to join our growing global team and help make our mission a reality.

In this role, you will lead a team of cross-disciplinary engineers in creating and delivering software, features, pipeline tools, and web development. Our ideal candidate has the technical aptitude to guide the team toward achieving our business goals and the leadership skills to create a collaborative team environment while coaching and mentoring each engineer. You must balance being both a contributor to and a functional manager of the team.

Location: This position can be remote or hybrid and is open to candidates based in the United States. Local candidates have the option to work out of our office located in Portland, Oregon.

What You'll Contribute

  • Enable and Inspire every member of your team. Build collaboration, excitement, and enthusiasm within your team. Create a great work environment
  • Create opportunities for every member of your team to grow professionally, connect with each other, and be fulfilled by their work
  • Set the expectations and goals for your team and each Direct Report, including them in the discussion to ensure the team can meet expectations
  • Ensure that each member of the team has the information and resources to meet these expectations. Work with them to eliminate roadblocks outside of their purview and coordinate with other teams/departments as necessary
  • Ensure that the Engineering team's output is high quality, measurable, consistent, and on-time
  • Create project plans, assign and schedule tasks, and drive the team to accomplish the goals of the department collaboratively
  • Regularly report project progress to all relevant stakeholders
  • Regularly review each team member's work and provide ongoing feedback in the form of 1:1s, retrospectives, coaching sessions, and performance reviews
  • Help assess hiring needs for the team and work with Sr. leadership and People Operations to define the team's growth, attract, source, and hire new team members
  • Partner cross-functionally with other departments to help support the engineering needs throughout the organization
  • Lead regular stand-ups and own the prioritization and project management of the team's output
  • Design new processes and features, gather requirements, and document the design
  • Delight internal and external customers by solving problems and developing new product capabilities

What You Bring to the Team

  • 7+ years of multi-disciplinary software engineering experience
  • 4+ year of experience providing mentorship, coaching, supervision, and/or management to other engineers
  • Previous experience with AWS and cloud-centric design patterns
  • Extensive experience in web application development: expert code development, service-oriented architecture, caching, CI/CD, security, and data architecture
  • Proficient in software pattern-based design principles (gang of four) and related concepts, such as dependency injection, separation of responsibilities, and clean coding
  • Leadership competencies that enable you to resolve problems, manage risk, resolve ambiguity, lead change, and prioritize work alongside your manager and team
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills which you will use to foster a culture of knowledge sharing and collaboration among a globally distributed team
  • Experience in full software development life cycle management
  • Expertise in project management and prioritization frameworks, such as Kanban, Agile, or similar. Familiarity with project management software, such as Linear, Jira, or similar
  • Technical aptitude to pose good questions to the engineering team about architecture and product decisions
  • Strong cross-departmental collaboration skills, you're a pro at partnering and communicating across various organizational levels
  • An eye for fine details - must be observant, accurate, and precise
  • Highly accountable - we believe that taking ownership is the key to succeeding as a team, and we hope you do too
  • Appetite for start-up culture, you are a quick learner and self-starter
  • Passionate about personal development and growth, you get excited about new challenges and solving problems

Bonus Points

  • Proven experience owning or driving tool development projects and libraries.
  • Proven experience in delivering easy-to-use tools with scalability, reliability, and maintainability in mind.
  • Proven experience in taking a minimum viable product to a final system, taking into consideration the balance between technical debt and competing business priorities.

What We Offer

  • Competitive salary - We believe in transparency and fairness in our hiring process. This position has an annualized market-based salary range of $150,000 to $180,000. Offers will generally fall within this range and take into account various factors including the responsibilities of the position, location of the applicant, experience, skill set, internal pay equity, and other relevant qualifications of the applicant.
