Job Duties:
Responsible for total resident care needs as follows:
Gives bed baths, tub baths, showers and back rubs. Shampoos & combs hairAssists residents or performs oral hygiene, denture care and special mouth careAssists residents with nail careAnswers residents' call lights and determines residents' needsAssists residents in and out of bed, to the bathroom, with walking with the use of walkers or wheelchairs and range of motion.Assists with dressing and shaving as necessary.Serves and collects food trays, assists in feeding residents requiring help, provides between meal nourishment and fresh drinking water when indicated. Transports residents to the dining room.Assists with other personal hygiene duties to increase the residents' comfort and well-beingMakes beds and changes bed linens as neededEncourages, motivates and transports residents to participate in recreational, occupational, group and physical therapy to promote activities of daily living.Reports any unusual behavior or conditions to the charge nurse immediately. Reports status of residents to the charge nurse at the end of the shift.Knows the location of assigned residents at all times.Completes documentation of resident status on a daily basis.Takes and records temperatures, pulse and respiration rate.Accurately weighs residents.Obtains urine and stool specimens.Responsible for bowel managements.Cares for external catheter devices, empties and records drainage at the end of each shift.Provides special skin care, may apply compresses, as directed.Other Duties:
Responsible for maintaining work area.Collects bags and transports soiled linen. Delivers and stores clean linen.Is alert to necessary safety precautions, reports any hazards.Knows responsibilities and duties in case of fire or emergency. Knows how to operate a fire extinguisher.Attends departmental and mandatory meetings and in-services.Positively interacts with residents, visitors, family members and fellow employees.Performs additional duties as assigned. This may include two resident care functions.Qualifications:
High school diploma or GEDNYS Certified Nursing Assistant Training CertificationPhysical Demands:
Work involves heavy liftingStanding and walking most of the time on dutyLifts residents, carries supplies and equipmentSpecial Requirements:
Verbal ability is required to communicate with residents and understand instructionManual dexterity is required to assist residents and operate computer systems.Must have a preference for performing services of benefit and help to elderly people.Able to perform a variety of tasks.Benefits:
