This position is perfectly suited for the teacher who is passionate about their Catholic faith and desires to further our students in their spiritual journey, helping them to reach their potential in a Catholic school environment.

The candidate must have solid, in-depth knowledge of Roman Catholicism and be a practicing Catholic committed to his/her own faith life and that of the students.

Our theology teachers are responsible for assisting students in their faith formation utilizing a comprehensive theology curriculum.

They accomplish this by creating engaging, challenging and innovative lesson plans that encourage students to seek and explore their faith from a multi-faceted approach, including in-depth classroom discussions and activities, research, self-reflection, retreats and service to others.

Saint Mark's High School encourages teacher collaboration through the sharing of teaching strategies, resources and ideas that will lead to successful student outcomes.

Collaboration at all levels, searching for the opportunities where faith and academics can be woven together, is key.

Teachers must have a willingness to be an active participant in the larger school community to continue our positive school culture, which can have a lasting impact on students.


Essential Functions:

Develop and deliver instruction strategies that align with the doctrines of Roman Catholicism, engage students in active and positive learning that is appropriate for the students' age and faith development level.

Ability to develop a rapport with students to build trust and encourage their progress, no matter where the student is at in their personal faith journey; a classroom environment where students feel safe and comfortable taking risks and questioning to seek understanding.

Promote student achievement by effectively managing a classroom of diverse learners that fosters an environment both inviting and accepting to the student.

Possess strong communication skills, both verbal and written, to effectively communicate with students, parents and colleagues.

Maintain open lines of communication with parents/guardians, informing them of their child's progress and addressing any concerns they may have.


Must be a practicing Catholic committed to his/her own faith life and that of the students.
Bachelor's degree (or higher) in theology or religious studies from an accredited college or university.
Minimum of 1-2 years teaching experience in middle or high school classroom.
Demonstrated success in designing and implementing engaging, standards-based lesson plans.
Excellent communication (written & verbal), organizational and time-management skills.
Active Teaching Licensure with proper endorsements (preferred).
