Position Overview

Two positions are available for the school year at The West Hill Preschool in Rosemont, PA. Positions available are for a prekindergarten teacher and a teacher of a program for children aged 2 years 7 months through 3 years. Applications will be accepted until March 20, 2024.

The typical school day for teachers is 8:15 am until 12:15 pm but additional responsibilities are available to extend the day. Yearly salary range is competitive and based on experience and daily responsibilities. Benefits include partial tuition reimbursement for employees, partial tuition remission for their children, and retirement benefits at the beginning of the third year of employment.

The West Hill School, located in a residential area on two acres, is a unique preschool built especially for children aged two years seven months to five years. The school is accredited by PAIS (Pennsylvania Association for Independent Schools) and is committed to creating a warm, trusting atmosphere that encourages young people to develop a life-long celebration of learning and to "connect, learn, and grow." Since 1966, West Hill's greatest strengths have been the joyful learning environment dedicated to meeting the needs of the whole child, the talented faculty/administration, the supportive community of parents/guardians and Board members, and a solid financial base.

All teachers must be part of a cohesive teaching team that coordinates and implements the curriculum and manages the daily operational activities of the classroom. Teachers must understand children's cognitive, social, emotional, creative, and physical development to ensure a safe and stimulating classroom environment where children are actively engaged in learning and encouraged to succeed. The teacher must be skilled in communicating with both children and adults to meet the needs of the children and address parent/guardian questions and concerns.

Key Responsibilities

  • Act consistently with the values of The West Hill School in accordance with the School Mission and the policies, procedures, and protocols identified in the Employee Handbook. ?
  • Exhibit a positive attitude, flexible problem-solving skills, leadership qualities, and initiative. ?
  • Coordinate and implement classroom activities based on developmentally appropriate practice and early learning ?standards found in the Curriculum Framework. ?
  • Lead by example; encourage teaching team success through collaboration, modeling, and coaching. ?
  • Plan individual and group age-appropriate activities to actively engage children and encourage social, cognitive, and emotional growth. ?
  • Establish and maintain a purposeful and equitable learning environment in which students feel safe, valued, and respected by instituting routines and clear expectations for student behavior. ?
  • Maintain frequent communications with parents/guardians through Brightwheel, informal discussions, progress reports, and parent-teacher conferences. ?
  • Communicate effectively with the Head of School, professional colleagues, and all members of the school community. ?
  • Ensure a safe, clean, inviting, and healthy classroom environment by adhering to the standards to address the safety and security of children. ?
  • Observe, record, and review the daily progress of the children. Maintain accurate records, forms, and data. ?
  • Ensure continuous quality improvement by attending professional development trainings.
  • Engage actively with the children in the daily activities associated with the Certified Nature Playground (Playscape). Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required ?
    • Bachelor's Degree in the field of education with related experience. ?
    • Strong oral and written communication skills and basic technology skills. ?
    • Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents/guardians) and to foster a team environment. ?
    • A strong understanding of child development and the ability and desire to make a meaningful connection with children. ?
    • Excellent organizational and interpersonal skills.
    • Personal and professional alignment with The West Hill School Mission.
    • Satisfactory background checks every three years.?
