Position Information

The City of Pittsburg seeks an ACCOUNT CLERK for the Pittsburg Power Company's (Island Energy) which is located on Mare Island in Vallejo, CA.*3% Cost of Living Adjustment effective July 2024 The Account Clerk at the Power Company is a journey level class, under immediate supervision, responsible for a range of accounting responsibilities include maintaining a utility billing system, managing customer accounts, posting payments, monitoring and managing receipts of utility payments, generating final bills, certifying delinquent utility accounts, and accounting record keeping.

The incumbent will also receive and respond to customer inquiries on billings and other customer related issues, and coordinate with field crew regarding activation and disconnection of meter service.

Other duties include cashiering; preparing, processing, maintaining and verifying purchasing, financial, budgeting and accounting documents and records; managing office supplies; managing billing and vendors; and performing other duties as required.

Prior work experience with utility or commercial billing
Excellent customer service skills and experience
Proficient office/computer/software skills to use a variety of equipment such as Microsoft Word and Excel

About Pittsburg Power Company - Island EnergyPittsburg Power Company ("PPC") conducts business in the City of Pittsburg and on Mare Island, under the name "Island Energy".

PPC is a publicly owned municipal utility company that provides electricity and natural gas services at Mare Island.

Examples of Duties

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:
Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
Customer Service - answering customer questions regarding bills and related matters; accept customer payments
Billing - perform monthly utility billing tasks including software inputs/outputs and checking
Dispatch technician for suspected gas leaks and power outages that are called in by customers
Follow-up on unpaid bills, process late fees, final notices and collection
Process customer payments and related banking
Code and process invoices
Perform basic accounting and spreadsheet inputs and analysis
Office management - manage office supplies, billings and vendors, i.e., garbage pick-up, lawn care, pest control, and office repairs
File management and office document control
Demonstrates an understanding of applicable policies, procedures and work methods associated with assigned duties.

Audits and verifies figures and claims for system entry; prepares and generates appropriate reports; records and checks financial transactions and prepares financial and statistical statements and reports.

Process USA's daily

Utilizes computerized data entry equipment, various word processing and spread sheet programs to enter, store and retrieve information as requested; summarizes data in preparation of standardized reports.

Basic principles and practices of bookkeeping and financial record keeping; basic accounting principles; basic City budget structure, utility billing procedures and practices, purchasing procedures, and fiscal systems and procedures.

Techniques for maintaining financial journals and ledgers; techniques for the preparation of financial reports.
Modern office practices, methods, and computer equipment including relevant software programs.
Oral and written communication skills; business English including vocabulary, spelling, and correct grammatical usage and punctuation.

Ability to:

Working Conditions:
Work is performed in a typical temperature-controlled office environment subject to typical office noise and environment. Some positions may be assigned to remote locations. Positions may be required to work outside of normal business including evenings and weekends and travel is rare.
