The Florida Department of Children and Families (DCF) is the state of Florida's social services agency. Within DCF, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health (SAMH) Program office is recognized as the single state authority for substance abuse and mental health services. The Office of SAMH is statutorily responsible for the planning, evaluation, and implementation of a comprehensive statewide system of care for the prevention, treatment, and recovery of children and adults with serious mental illnesses or substance use disorders.

North Florida Evaluation and Treatment Center (NFETC) is a 216 bed, all male, forensic, mental health rehabilitation facility. The Center is located in northeast Gainesville, Florida on 639 picturesque acres with regular sightings of deer, turkey, and other wildlife. NFETC employs a variety of entry level to leadership positions including food service, maintenance, direct care, nurses, counselors, rehab therapists, medical doctors, security, psychiatrists, and psychologists.

This is a highly responsible and professional position that will serve as Behavioral Analyst F/C. This position will collaborate with each section within the state facilities and be required to use independent judgement, take initiative in carrying out duties and responsibilities and should be extraordinarily detail oriented.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Produces psychological evaluations on assigned patients that may include a record review and assessment of cognitive functioning, suicide risk factors, trauma risk factors, violence risk factors, malingering, and competency. Enter competency results in the patient system database and update logs.
  • Develops clinical treatment programs such as group, behavioral modification program, and individual therapy/treatment on selected persons served, when applicable. Consults with the Recovery Team, as needed, in the formulation of diagnosis, needed psychological assessment, and recovery plan.
  • Reviews treatment progress of persons served with the Recovery Treatment Team at prescribed intervals for selected patients. Consults with the Recovery Team, as needed, in the formulation of diagnosis, needed psychological assessment, and recovery plan.
  • Addresses consultations requests from psychiatry for assigned patients. Serves on at least one committee as assigned by the lead or the director of the department. Is a core member of the Post Event Review Team (PERT).
  • Addresses consultation requests from psychiatry for assigned patients to include personality and neuro-psychological screeners. Provides agency personnel with information relating to general and clinical aspects of psychology and the use of psychologists in the treatment and/or rehabilitation process.
  • Works with all staff to effectively utilize psychological, where these are appropriate, and enhances the treatment and/or rehabilitation process. Available to training personnel as a consultant on in-service training programs and opportunities for professional development of staff in areas relating to psychology.
  • Provides agency personnel with information relating to general and clinical aspects of psychology and the use of psychologists in the treatment and/or rehabilitation process. Assists the director in performing clerical assistant duties necessary for the functioning of the psychology clinic, assisting administrators in their initiatives involving the psychology department as needed and working on the initiative to provide NGI patients with treatment.
  • Assists director in ensuring psychological assessment inventory is appropriate and current, inventory (assessments, housekeeping, warehouse), logs (data management), medical records (chart creation, admission packets and discharge processing), NGI programing (meetings, printing materials) and any other additional duties to assist the Psychological Service Director (work orders, meeting coverage for meetings scheduled at the same time, creating training materials, follow-up on psychology initiatives).
  • Assist in daily operations such as monitoring/updating logs, disseminating information to the psychology team from administration/psychology service director and other departments, facilitate meetings (as needed) attend leadership meetings, and collaborate with other departments on initiatives such as rehab, counseling, and training (as our consumers).
  • Assist in delegating and assigning duties to building psychologists such as testing consults, suicide risk assessments and violence risk assessments.
  • Monitors quality control of programmatic material such as NGI groups, assist in the monitoring of programmatic delivery by behavioral specialists and counselors, and assists in creating, implementing, and scheduling NGI activities along with the psychology director. Provides clinical oversight for NGI Building.
  • Designated as "acting" director when the Director of Psychology is on leave and will oversee all administrative and team requests when the director is not on site or unavailable.
  • Incumbent will perform psychological evaluations and testing on male forensic patient population.
  • Incumbent will respond to Director of Psychological Services or the Medical Executive Director.
  • Incumbent will work with the treatment teams to provide psychological care and determine competency for those in evaluation process.
  • Performs psychological testing as indicated by policy and psychiatry.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities required for the position:

  • Knowledge of the theories and principles of psychology.
  • Knowledge of psychological testing principles and practice.
  • Knowledge of methods of compiling, organizing, analyzing, and interpreting data.
  • Knowledge of group theories and methods.
  • Knowledge of basic computer skills to include ability to use Word, Excel, Lotus Notes, and Explorer.
  • Skill in establishing and maintaining an effective working relationship with others as evidenced by use of positive communication style and motivational techniques.
  • Skill in supporting the direction of the organization and translating it into actionable plans as evidenced by an established pattern of volunteering for special assignments at the request of administration, departmental director, or departmental lead or by demonstrating initiative in the form of providing services above the minimally required job description.
  • Skill and experience in the conceptualization, development, and implementation of group programs.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures along with the ability to fully support and exemplify a positive and ethical work environment which allows all employees to achieve their full potential.
  • Ability to analyze and interpret psychological data.
  • Ability to provide consultation and training to staff and administration.
  • Ability to formulate and implement goals and objectives.
  • Ability to plan, organize, and coordinate work assignments.
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability and skill in self-motivation as demonstrated by an established pattern of self-motivation and by being an active and positive contributor to the department/place of employment.
  • Ability to function as an effective member of a team as evidenced by the establishment and maintenance of good working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Psychology or Counseling Doctoral Degree.
  • Completion of Doctoral Internship.
