Position Purpose:

The Speech-Language Pathologist is responsible for providing services to meet the learning needs of students with communication and language (oral and written) impairments and other learning differences. They will be responsible for conducting assessments including for screening and progress monitoring purposes; developing goals for students; planning/implementing appropriate language (oral and written), communication and speech treatment services to maximize student learning; consulting and actively participating in classroom instruction with educator colleagues; collaborating with a multidisciplinary team about student learning; and working with teachers to optimize the language of instruction and to provide strategies to address diverse language needs.

Essential Functions:

  • Evaluate and assess student needs for language/speech therapy
  • Collaborate with classroom teachers to optimize language of instruction and student's learning environment
  • Select, administer, interpret, and develop specialized tests
  • Gather data on student's educational, medical, social, and psychological history to assist with determining appropriate educational goals and treatment
  • Collaborate with teachers to ensure the integration of speech/language development techniques into the student's classroom routine
  • Participate in parent-teacher conferences and provides parents support and information regarding their child
  • Instruct parents/guardians in exercises to implement at home
  • Serve as a resource to faculty and conducts workshops regarding language development
  • Consult with physicians and other agencies as necessary and assists with referring students to appropriate specialists
  • Maintain thorough records for each student receiving speech/language services and provides related reports
  • Manage supplies and equipment needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned by Head of School Physical Demands and Work Environment

    Physical demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit in on meetings and work on a computer for long periods of time; and is occasionally required to walk, reach with hands and arms, balance, stoop, talk, and hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

    Qualifications

  • Master's degree, license and ASHA CCC-SLP certification required
At least 3 years of therapeutic intervention experience in a school-based setting preferred ASHA certification Knowledge of or training in specific programs for reading (e.g. Orton-Gillingham) writing, and/or executive functioning Knowledge of the Lexia Core5 preferred but not required Experience with differentiated instruction Flexible teaching background and interest in teaching electives, coaching, and/or advising clubs is a plus Ability to work creatively and in a self-directed manner
