Scope of assigned duties include but are not limited to the following:


Performs all aspects of MRI of the spine, head, neck, chest, abdomen, pelvis, and extremities, utilizing specialized sequences to visualize the anatomy and pathology necessary for diagnosis.

Performs advanced level aspects of MRI to include MR Breast and MR Cardiac studies utilizing specialized sequences to visualize the anatomy and pathology necessary for diagnosis.

Performs MRI of the peripheral and visceral vessels through MR angiography of the abdominal systems and extremities.
Prepares contrast materials under the direction of the radiologist.

Receives and interprets all radiology requests for accuracy, appropriateness, reviews orders, protocols, screening information (for accuracy; noting and researching all questionable information prior to tech approval and performing the exam) and notes in CPRS to verify appropriate exam and patient's medical history, performs tech approval.

Performs and completes imaging studies within the established guidelines for stat, pre-op, urgent and
routine exams.
Responsible for operating and maximizing utilization of all equipment.

Works with staff and MRI schedule to assure timely accomplishment of assigned workload, making day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities and additional assignments.

Maintains adequate supplies and pharmaceuticals used in the department.
Provide leadership to staff MRI technologists assigned across multiple shifts, providing coverage for a 24/7 service.

Responsible for acquiring knowledge, implementing, and training staff of new process, procedures, exam protocols, technological advances, and any other proficiency related to MRI.

Provide performance appraisals input to the Supervisory DRT for section staff as periodically required by the VA or as events occur.

Represent the service in cross functional meetings; participate and able to engage with different organizational levels to resolute common healthcare practice and goals.

Track, collect, and perform health informatics/data required for management analysis.
Monitor and facilitate Community Care referrals related to MRI procedures.

Assures section operations comply and consistently maintain the patient of care and safety standards as set forth by the Joint Commission, OIG, VACO, ACR and other regulatory surveys.

Ensures QA testing is performed and documented as required within appropriate frequency by staff technologists.

Ensures that adequate quantities of supplies for each respective area are available to meet workload demands through a systemized process of ordering, receipt, and inventory control.

Research, prepare, and submit appropriate documentation to the hospital Clinical Products Review Committee (CPRC) for recommendation and approval process while representing the service during any CPRC meetings.

Operates as the Magnetic Resonance Safety Officer (MRSO) in the absence of others to perform these duties.
