We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Design Engineer to join our team and lead the development of soft trim interiors for our groundbreaking vehicles. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in automotive interiors, possessing the expertise to oversee the entire product lifecycle from design conception to physical realization. This individual will play a pivotal role in driving innovation, ensuring quality, and delivering exceptional interior designs that exceed industry standards.

Role:

  • Lead the design and development of soft trim interiors for automotive applications, adhering to project timelines and budget constraints.
  • Create and manage Design Verification Plans (DVP) and Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) to ensure product robustness and reliability.
  • Guide the product through the entire development process, from initial concept to final production, including prototyping, testing, and validation.
  • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, manufacturing, procurement, and quality assurance, to achieve project objectives.
  • Review quotes and proposals from suppliers, negotiate pricing, and select vendors based on technical capabilities, cost-effectiveness, and quality standards.
  • Utilize CAD software to develop detailed designs, models, and drawings for soft trim components, ensuring adherence to engineering specifications and regulatory requirements.
  • Provide technical expertise and support during the build phase, addressing any design issues or manufacturing challenges that may arise.
  • Mentor junior engineers, providing guidance, training, and support to foster their professional development.
  • Take ownership and accountability for all aspects of the assigned projects, demonstrating leadership and initiative to drive successful outcomes.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in automotive interiors design and development, with a focus on soft trim components.
  • Proven track record of managing DVP and DFMEA processes for automotive projects.
  • Extensive knowledge of the product development lifecycle, from concept to production, within the automotive industry.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (CATIA V5 preferred) for 3D modeling and design visualization.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues and propose effective solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities, with experience in mentoring and coaching junior engineers.
  • Self-motivated and proactive, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements and industry standards for automotive interiors (e.g., FMVSS, ISO).
  • Experience working with global suppliers and manufacturers is a plus.

Additional Senior Engineer Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic input and contribute to the development of long-term product roadmaps and technology strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, cost optimization, and innovation within the engineering department.
  • Act as a subject matter expert in automotive interiors, staying abreast of emerging trends, technologies, and best practices in the field.
  • Represent the company in technical discussions, industry conferences, and customer meetings to showcase our capabilities and expertise.
  • Collaborate with senior management to define departmental goals, objectives, and performance metrics, ensuring alignment with overall business objectives.
  • Foster a culture of continuous learning and professional growth within the engineering team, promoting knowledge sharing and skills development initiatives.
