Summary

Substation Power Equipment Engineer I provides technical expertise to solve Substation power equipment problems, and leadership skills to provide oversight of work in a specific area of expertise, with close supervision. Incumbents are expected to develop skills in their field of study, and the ability to work with greater independence.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities

With Close Supervision:

  • Provides technical expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis and resolution of problems in area of expertise.
  • Ensures accomplishment of business goals and objectives through effective planning, organizing, estimating, scheduling and monitoring of work activities.
  • Prepares thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, documentation, calculations and sketches.
  • Provides critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Strives to continually improve job-related, engineering, technical and professional knowledge, skills and performance.
  • Develops positive working relationships to effectively coordinate work activities. Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. Maintains accurate records and files.
  • Supports the company's goals and represents the company positively and professionally.
  • Working knowledge of company and industry codes, rules, regulations, standards, policies, and procedures

Required Qualifications for Position

Specialist I

  • Graduate from a four year ABET accredited college or university with a Bachelor of Science in Engineering
  • Understanding of basic engineering/technical theories and principles.
  • Understanding of basic practices of researching technical design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations and preparing and presenting recommendations
  • Ability to deal with a variety of individuals from various socio-economic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Good written and oral communication skills.
  • Understanding of basic principles of project management
  • PMP Certification
  • Experience in the electric utility industry.

Preferred Additional Qualifications for Position

Substation Power Equipment Engineer I

Ability to investigate and analyze assigned technical issues under close supervision and apply basic electrical and mechanical engineering principals

Ability to read and interpret mechanical and electrical drawings

Has basic understanding of our Cascade Maintenance System

Ability to operate basic test and measurement equipment

Ability to perform infrared scanning and analyze results for impending problems and issues mitigation recommendations

Has basic knowledge of power system component operation

has basic knowledge of mechanical engineering principals

Has ability to document acceptance, calibration, maintenance, and functional testing of substation power equipment
