Patient Care Technician

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of aseptic technique, basic wound care, patient safety, and patient transport techniques.
- Knowledge of recording and reporting pertinent clinical data.
- Knowledge of initiation and management of specialized patient care equipment
Basic analytical ability is required to:
o Operate electronic monitoring equipment
o Determine appropriate information and resources
o Organize and summarize information
o Make judgments regarding routine patient care activities within scope of practice
- Effective verbal communication and interpersonal skills to establish working relationships Demonstrate skills in performing routine patient care activities (i.e. VS, pulse, oximetry, ht/wt, abdominal girth).
Required Licensure, Certification, On-going Training:
Nursing Assistant certification, BLS certification provided by AHA, American Red Cross, or Military Training Network.
All credentials must be maintained with active status.
Work Experience:
One year of clinical experience e.g., home care, outpatient, acute care (hospital preferred) technician experience during the most recent two years in a setting relevant to the unit; volunteer work as EMT or CRT may be considered.
Machines, Tools, Equipment:
General Physiological monitoring and patient care equipment such as defibrillator and cardiac monitor.
The Clinical Technician is responsible for:
Under the direct supervision of a nurse, and taking into consideration the developmental needs of the patient, performs routine patient activities and delegated patient care procedures of a specialized and technical nature.
This includes observing and monitoring patient condition, identifying changes in collected patient data and notifying nurse, setting up and maintaining specialized clinical equipment, knowledge of aseptic technique, collecting blood specimens and performing related, delegated nursing procedures.
