Job Description
AbbVie's DPD organization is seeking a highly motivated, talented, and creative leader with a proven track record and expertise in developing long acting injectable (LAI) drug products for a Senior Principal Research Scientist position to join our DPD team based in North Chicago, IL. The candidate as a recognized multidiscipline expert will drive functional performance by designing and implementing studies aimed at new or improved products. The candidate is also expected to foster productive collaborations and demonstrate effective communication within scientific teams.
Responsibilities
Develops and achieves discipline strategy in alignment with functional goals and key scientific objectives.Collaborates with experts within function to integrate scientific objectives into activities associated with development of new/improved products or technology.Advances scientific expertise within function. Proactively demonstrates leadership by advising and sharing knowledge and expert opinions with subordinates, peers, and senior management.Mentors and trains functional colleagues and assess current and emerging business challenges enabling functional goal achievement.Ensures quality and effectiveness of key results of major project plans within function through sound design, early risk assessments, and implementation of fallback strategies.Sources and identifies emerging scientific trends from multiple internal and external sources and assess relevance. Integrates trends into functional short-term objectives. Advances cross-discipline technology and direction.Applies imagination and innovation by creating, inventing, and implementing new or better approaches, alternatives and breakthrough ideas that are valued by customers within the function.Presents scientific concepts and results for functional scientific and non-scientific leaders as well as potential and existing partners. Maximizes impact and value of expertise.Responsible for compliance with applicable Corporate and Divisional Policies and procedures.Qualifications
Bachelors, Masters, or PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering or related field with 18+ (Bachelors), 16+ (Masters), or 10+ (PhD) years of related work experience.Proven ability to innovate with a history of developing LAI clinical or commercial drug products.Deep technical background in pharmaceutical development.Interacts well with diverse groups within function and maintains strong working relationships with internal and external collaborators.Demonstrated ability to influence others across areas of scientific disciplines.Demonstration of creative 'out of the box' thinking to solve complex technical problems and champion new technologies to achieve project goals.Key CompetenciesDelivers business results while also positioning AbbVie for long-term success.Builds strong relationships with peers and cross functionally with partners outside of team to enable higher performance.Learns fast, grasps the "essence, and can change course quickly where indicated.Raises the bar and is never satisfied with the status quo.Creates a learning environment, open to suggestions and experimentation for improvement.Embraces the ideas of others, nurtures innovation and manages innovation to reality.
